Help with Golf R seats on caddy bases!

Post by Adamgav5000 » Sat Jan 12, 2019 4:24 pm

Hi all,

I have done a search and have seen that many of you have had success in fitting your golf R seats onto the caddy bases and only having to drill 2 holes.

I can not see any 2 holes that line up. I measured the gold seats holes at 480mm wide and the bases at 460mm.

Which of the original holes did you use?

Also I have cut the locating tab off the underside. Do you cut the front one off aswell?

Thanks!

Hi,

I fitted mine with touran bases, straight fit, no drilling required,

If I remember you just need the different size bolts for the seats compared to the caddy ones

Yeah your have to cut off the tap and drill holes. It’s really fiddly. If you can get cheap Touran bases. Sooooooooo much easier.

Thanks for your reply’s!

I quite like the lower position so preferably want to use the caddy bases. Last resort will be the touran base.

I will have to try and get a longer spline bit so I can get the bases out and mark them up properly. I only have a short bit that isn’t long enough to get through the hole in the base

There is no difference in the seating position I’m very sure.

Pretty sure there is as the touran bases are higher. That's why I used my caddy bases.

I’m sure there is a thread somewhere that they tried both with R seats and there was like half a cm difference so yeah there higher.

The rails can spread, when the seats are sat on when uninstalled ( when on someones garage floor for example)
But they should easily be squeezed back to the required width.

Touran bases are definitely taller by about 40mm I think. Might even be a bit more than that. I added mine back in as my seats were too low on the caddy bases.

I much prefer the lower seating position created by my Golf Mk7 GTi seats (same as golf R) being lower profile than the big caddy armchairs. I've said it before but you feel more like you're sitting in it, rather than sitting on it.

Take the frames out, sit your seats on them, line up as many holes as you can then drill new holes for the others. They have pump up height adjustment so even if it feels too low for you, you can just raise them up.

There's not much height difference between the standard Caddy Seats on Caddy bases vs Golf R seats on Touran Bases.
But yes Golf R seats on Caddy bases would be lower than Golf R seats on Touran Bases.
