Same as all autos mate, they always use more fuel than a manual box

Re: Diesel drinker
The DSG is more efficient than a conventional torque converter type auto. The DSG is heavier than a manual, so this will be a factor, also it depends on how you drive the car as the DSG will change based on its programming and not on how you want it to change. The difference is shown in the brochure, just don't take the published figures as "accurate", only use them for comparison.

If it had a manual box it would have been great on fuel with that engine!Taxi_G wrote:My last taxi was a 59 plate, 1.9 Tdi octavia DSG, i got shot of it because of its shocking mpg

Re: Diesel drinker
My maxi life dsg has averaged 48.9 mpg since I got it, it's done 15800 miles to date. The worst I get is around 40 and the beat I've had was 63. The dsg gearbox seems rather keen to drop down a gear going up an incline, when it could quite capably stay in a higher gear. Try driving with manual gear change, so you can change gear when you want rather than when the ecu wants to. Just remember, when you come to a halt, it will drop down to first automatically, just remember to change gear as you acellerate.

Re: Diesel drinker
My mate had a severe drop in MPG, it turned out his back box has come away from the pipe and was hanging, blocking the pipe partially and increasing back pressure.
Maybe worth a look as it's not that much louder when the box is goosed.
If you have a DPF, it may be choaked up and need a good rip on the motorway to regenerate.
