Rough Idle Caddy BJB 105 tdipd

Post by N14LLd »

So I just bought this caddy in real bad condition. previous owner was a farmer didnt really care about it.

first of all I scanned it and low and behold, all four glow plugs, water temp sensor and fuel temp sensor all gone.

changed all of them.... seamed to do the trick. few mile down the road rough idle again..

scanned it, was coming up with misfire cylinder three. after inspecting the cam I changed it for brand new cam and lifters the black ones..... still no difference in idle even tho cam and 3 lodes were worn.
Oh checked torsion on VDCS it was -2.9kw. I fixed that now sitting at 0.0kw... man that was hard to get precise. still no difference with idle.

eventually I changed all four injectors of ARL ones.... lovely job Idle is lovely driving like a dream....until she heats up. now cold or warm its like Im back to square one.
scanned it to night this is what it come up with.

Your idle stabilisation is off the chart bud, it should be + or - 0.5 at the most.
Looks like they are going crazy, trying to correct something.
Crank sensor ok?

Ive changed the air and fuel filters but no thinking about it. the engine cover has wore a hole in the air pipe. after the sensor. wonder would that count for something.

I have a tuned file in the van and the tuner said he can try and work something for the new injectors.

Is there any way of telling if the injectors are leaking? its not filling the sump.. Ive seen that happen before.

Would a faulty crank sensor not come up on the VDCS scan?

Crank sensor may be giving wonky readings and the ECU is over correcting. The injector stabilisation is only done at idle, is that when you notice the problem most? Drives OK?

if you have a hole in the air intake pipe after your mass air flow sensor i would say thats your problem.
with the above scans you have put up its showing engine speed that is the crank sensor i think G28? so i would say thats ok.
have you drove the van? dose it surge on power underload

Right that will give me something to do tomorrow. get a new pipe.
Drives the very best, sometimes very easy to stall when its warm. I think due to the misfire.

I think I will get onto the tuner and fix the pipe tomorrow if that doesn't solve it ill look into the crank sensor.

Thanks for the info lads.

does it drive ok?
how have the injectors been set up?
i don't think it's going to be something like the maf or a split boost pipe, that would cause it to be gutless but not rough and missfiring.
something to do with the fuel system i reckon. but more logging is needed first

Fixed my air pipe yesterday. Took it for a wee cruise last night.
Its weird for once cold it starts 1st time. but rough idle. Then once drove for a while idle is perfect and driving perfect. bad and good driving comes and goes.
when its driving bad it is acting like a really really really bad flywheel.

I quarter miled a 143 audi a4 last night. he says there is a puff of white smoke every so often amongst the black as if its off a cylinder.

I was talking to a fella he says on the rollers for the injectors some times need screwed down so the injector is getting pressed enough.
Ive changed injectors before and never done this. any one else heard of doing that?

how did you set the injectors up? from memory you tighten them down fully and then back off 225degrees an each one with them at TDC.

possible yeah. it's either going to be 2 things i reckon:
1- mechanical damage to one/some of the cylinders/pistons head/valves/seats etc...
2- a blockage or fault in the fuel system.

an from them i reckon it's going to be number 2.

Has anyone heard of changing the injector harness to clear a few faults?
