Interior handle coating removal ?

Post by markl »

Would like to give my handles a lick of paint
But what is the best way of removing the coating or is it best to sand them down?

Or better still what's the price of a new set from vw?

Soak them in Isopropanol overnight Buddy, then it should come off fairly easy :D but to be honest a new set from TPS would only be about £30. And i think the new stuff doesnt have that crappy soft touch stuff on that the older tourans had.

I do have a few sets that i will be dipping soon in carbon fibre if your interested.

I had a Lupo a while ago with shabby rubberised handles, I sanded the rubber off then polished the black plastic on a bench grinder polishing mop, ended up a really nice high gloss black.

I had a go with the stuff in the pic. I'm fitting a Touran dash, and this is one of the trims that had the soft touch goo on it. I rubbed the trim with a cloth soaked in the liquid. Nothing abrasive was required, so the raw plastic finish is nice and smooth. I gave the plastic a rinse and then a go over with some fine polish. It takes some elbow grease, but came out nicely.Image

Toothpaste does a grand job of shining the plastic up after stripping.Image
