Well it means that all we can do is 60 on a dual carriage way and 70 on the motorway if we are over 2 tonne

And single carriageway national speed limit roads which we have to do 50 as opposed to cars doing 60.

You would be better off being caught at 80 in van you are allowed to do 70 in than a van limited to 60 though.Mr. P wrote:Not being funny to anyone but who actually sticks to speed limits?

Re: Van re classified under 2 tonne!
I know we all speed but the problem is that camera vans will target you as they know in a van they are likely to catch you over the limit. I know of a few people caught out recently. At least with the police, as long as you weren't massively over, you can take the lecture at the side of the road, plead innocence and apologise profusely and usually get sent on your way with a warning. Not sure whether the camera vans will be able to distinguish between the different weight categories so you may still have to go to court with the documents anyway. Again, with a policeman you can show him your documents or take them to a police station to prove you were ok at the raised speed limit.

Most of the guys I know who've been done have been caught by those new digital roadside cameras - rather than vans, cops or GATSO's.
Plus a lot of police don't even know the LGV speed limits!

Watch out for the new handhelds the police are using, they work in the dark.

Van re classified under 2 tonne!
Amelia - it says under max permissible mass, 2172kg which means it's over 2000kg limit and so it's lower limits for you!

Re: Van re classified under 2 tonne!
Jamesc76 can you put the letter up as they have now created a precedent for us to change ours if it has a similar suspension setup?
Any help would be appreciated

I deliberately kept the letter vague and this is the exact thing I sent, they did send me a generic form that all you need put is the empty weight on and write across the rest "car derived vans are not plated so this is not relevant"
With ref to Change of Revenue Weight to VW Caddy RE07 ***
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you to inform you of changes that have been carried out to the above vehicles suspension set up and thus changing the load carrying capabilities of the vehicle.
The original set up allowed a pay load of 724kg the new set up has reduced this by 225kg. To which end takes the Revenue weight from 2211kg down to 1986kg.
I hope this is to your satisfaction and please don’t hesitate to contact me on the above number should anything be not satisfactory

Re: Van re classified under 2 tonne!
Where did you get the figure 225kg from? Is that what a suspension manufacturer would recommend?
