Yes dan so called vw specialist in Leicester called chapmans. It did come up with 2 fault codes though and this is currently being checked out. Pollen filter is being checked and 2 new top mounts fitted on the front shocks as well today...best get earning some dollers..

Changed my canbus to fit an rcd 510.. could it be a coding issue?

Re: Climatic air con on the blink.
Sorry to keep nagging this topic on but im making no head way with this air con system. So just to recap whats been done, regas was done and found to be holding pressure, vagcom is showing 2 fault code but I was told by the technician they wasnt anything to do with the aircon. The upgraded canbus has been removed and old one refitted so assume its not a coding issue.. so whats left? I can get hold of a second hand compressor but I dont want to change it yet incase its something else... any thoughts guys sorry to be a bore off lol..

As I stated in an earlier post I was told by a Vag engineer the compressors have design life of 500,000 miles.Nick4d wrote:No fault codes found and 45+vat for the privilege. .. ok so whats the next thing to check peeps. Compressor?
My last two Caddys were A/Con with 280k and 150k respectively and A/C still going strong.
My current Caddy has 135k on the clock and the compressor is not even on my 'worry' list.
I use my A/C 365 day per year, even in the depths of winter, I am an A/C freak.
I am no A/C engineer but if you have pressure in the system it is unlikely it is the pump (compressor) as I see it.
The other two components are the Receiver/Dryer and the other the Condenser.
A good A/C man should be able to identify which of these components is at fault.............ps..........Both are a hell of a lot cheaper than a compressor.

Re: Climatic air con on the blink.
The receiver dryer is part of the condensor on these rather than seperate items you could change ..if you have pressure in the system then you need to check maybe the pressure switch by the condensor (drivers side) or its electrical ..maybe in the control unit ...its not a complex thing A/C ...maybe try another A/C expert ??

Re: Climatic air con on the blink.
Thanks guys. How would I test the pressure sensor? Or is that something that an ac engineer would pick up on. I just dont see that if there is no leaks how im going to diagnose the fault other than changing parts .. im in leicester if anyone knows of a good air con specialist.

as you're in Leicester, i've always used http://www.coolrunning.biz/ near the town end of Aylestone Road. Always been pretty good there.

Re: Climatic air con on the blink.
Ok just an update then. Cool running have checked the van over and are positive that the problem is the compressor unit. Its made by zexel and are apparently common for conking out. There are 2 other types they fit on caddys, a denso one which are not to bad and a sanden one that are good and rarely fail. Found a sanden one second hand and its being fitted next week then back to cool running for a flush and re gas so should be sorted. Thanks everyone for the advice....

Well my a/c compressor has failed at 90k, so sounds like i've been v unlucky.
