Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
I had a similar problem once on a Mazda Premacy gave up looking after several garages had found "nothing wrong with it".
Then when having tyres replaced happened to notice one wobbling because the safety guard/cover on the balancing machine was broken.
It turns out I had two buckled wheels one on front, one on back.
Two new rims from the scrappy later - cured.

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
Hi Chezzy, I cant PM yet - have asked to be upgraded.
I used these from Darkside - I tried other places but kept being given the wrong ones: http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/p ... -leon.html Darkside just sell the bushes rather than the whole thing.
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
I've had the backs wobble between 60/80 for ages now, done the balancing ect and tried different wheels, changed the arb bushes yesterday and it has made a slight difference but I'm changing the rear shocks tomorrow as they've done 86000 now so they might be knackered

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
I have had wobbles with my Caddy since I got my Caddy 1.6 tdi year 2011 from factory, and I have complained as much as possible to VW in Denmark, but the problem was never resolved. I have tried at least 15 different set of wheels size 15"-19" all balanced and everything. So it is not about the wheels/rims/tires. Car is also aligned perfectly. I like the idea about changing bushes, but I would like to get the correct and best ones the first time. So, to get rid of the annoying wobble, which bushes should I get?
Cheers.

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
I am still worried about the wobble, and I have checked the leftovers from the mechanic after he lowered my Caddy with the Eibach lowering kit. My Caddy has double leaf springs. (I will post a picture of that later on - since it looks silly, I think). The two "golden rings" are not mounted, I don't know why.
What are they for (yes, those the red arrow is pointing at :-))?

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
If you have lowered it and the front has been lowered more than the rear, this can reduce the caster angle, and this can lead to high speed wobble. It does not take much to do this.
Many years ago it was quite popular to have lengthened shackles on leaf sprung Escorts, and they had major issues with high speed wobble.

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
The front and rear are equally lowered... I have had the Caddy aligned afterwards and the wheels balanced....

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
Dragging up an old post....did anyone get any cure's for this?
I noticed as soon as I put my 18" BBS on, I was getting steering wheel wobble around 40-50mph and then again quite badly at 80-90mph....more noticeably under load. I put the standard 16" alloys back on and it's still there although not as noticeable which I'm guessing is due to the large tyre profile.
Had wheels balanced, alignment etc and it only seems to be on the fronts. With it being more noticeable under load does this point at something like drive shaft? Could it be something up with the DMF?
I really wanna get the BBS alloys back on but the wobble is unbearable

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
Maybe try a couple of things. Check it the wheels are round. Not damaged. Did you need a spigot ring?? Get them to check and tracking and balance tell them your getting a wobble. That’s where I would start.

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
Yeh, the wobble is at the same speed with both sets of wheels, both of which have been balanced and checked. I'm not too confident in the guys who did the wheel alignment so booked in at a different place this afternoon. The bushes were all checked when I had suspension fitted a year ago and also checked again on it's last service a couple of weeks ago.
I did need a spigot ring on the BBS, incidentally the wrong spigots were fitted originally with about 100miles being put on which is when I first noticed the wobble... so i'm wondering if this has caused some imbalance somewhere which is now being reflected with both sets of wheels.

Re: Wobble at motorway speeds
Have someone drive behind you and look for bouncing of the rear axle, maybe attach a GoPro if you have one.
I had a mate with what he thought was wheel wobble but it turned out to be blown rear damper.
The damper was so bad the rear left wheel was leaving the road and properly bouncing up and down.
