Frank, there is a thread in exterior mods that shows how to do the job including where to drill the hole (sorry don't know how to do the link)

Hi guys.
Glad to hear they arrivered undamaged.
The side rail can be unscrewed at the front then close the door onto its first catch and then undo remaining bolts.
Slide old rail off of door roller and new rail back on
Here are the bracket fitting instructions.
Tools needed.
1 drill with 1/4inch or 6mm bit or bigger if your measuring and driiling skills are not good :-)
4mm allen key (can also use 25torx bit)
5mm allen key (can also use 30torx bit)


1. Remove inner cover.


2 + 3. Measure and drill 1/4inch hole as shown. (measurements are to center of holes)



4. Remove old cover and clip insert shown.


5. Fit your new clip. (VAG part no 7HO 843 658 A)


6. You should already have your new side rail (2KO 843 871 J) fitted.


7 + 8. Now its time to fit your R.A.D bracket using the silver bolt and washer. (DO NOT TIGHTEN)



9. Now you need to slide the door fully open and slide the new rail cover (2KO 843 795 B) from front to rear so the rear end is resting on the door roller (unless you have someone to hold it)
Fit one of the black bolts but again leave it loose. You should now be able to hold the back of the cover and slide the door so its nearly closed. Now push the cover towards the front of the van until the holes in the cover line up with the tabs on the rail. Now slide the cover towards the rear of the van making sure it also slides onto the new clip at the back.


10. Fit other black bolt.


11. Time to tighten all three bolts and stand back and enjoy.

Had a go at fitting the new rail, pretty frustrating, torx 25 is to small ,27 feels like to big.
Strange, there is no torx26 is there?

Mine fitted like a charm, measured and taped as in Matts pictures, drilled, you don't even have to take the door off..

I know the kit will fit right up,it's just that the torx thingies usually frustrate the h out of me .
Will just need to get at the right tools at work tomorrow.

Hi Frank.
Are you having trouble with the side rail bolts. If i remember correctly some of the are held on with splines and not torx.

Matt, the front (inside dooropening) came out all right, but the outer ones I could not get a good fit with hex or torx bit.
Spline bits are new to me.
Will have a look tomorrow.

spline bits, so that's what they are called I've been asking for torx bits with double the amount of teeth and been getting nowhere.Duh
The side rail is held on with spline bits iirc, I got mine off with torx bits but it will depend how tight/corroded they are

Off to google "spline bit sets"

Not sure on size. Although mine are star/spline heads, Mine we on loan, so used an Allen Key, gentle tap in, and off I went..
