im glad all you need over here is insurance oh and of course a license
Its perfectly legal to convert a private jeep to a commercial, and if its kept that way no laws are broken, it people importing private jeeps as commercials and then re-converting them back to private is the problem.. though there is some price difference between a private jeep and commercial in Ireland, up to 40 - 50 grand in some cases

Yes, the customs do a fair few checks every now and then, plus if you have a crash your insurance won't want to know, you'll be fooked..

Brother got his caddy today privately and guess what it's true you don't need to test the van to tax it :D

This is fantastic news cos apart from anything else it's a pain taking time off work to get it tested

So gormley the twat has done away with the need for a department of the environment test meaning that any smokey van polluting the planet is ok so long as they pay a little more !!!

I'm very interested to see what happens when he gets to a toll road, will he pay the car toll or the commercial toll ??
If it's taxed as private instead of commercial he should pay the car rate, but good luck telling those idiots that.

Also, I pay €288 for commercial tax and €70 for DOE.
That's a long ways off the €582 your brothers paying, €224 worth of beer vouchers he's giving them ?

It's starting to boil my blood all this red tape bullshit.

Here's my story;

I imported my Caddy in March but only got things sorted on it the day Gormelly announced this money spinner.(good timing!)

Its cleared, Doe'd and weighed next stop tax!!

I'm gonna go to my local garda station on Friday and get weight docket and back tax form stamped and send off for a year's tax.

Is it likely that the tax office will send it back with a form to be stamped to say I'll only use it for work purposes which most of the time I do as the old reliable Octavia does most of the family outings.

I'm not self employed, don't have a herd number or VAT number. Am I gonna be in trouble? Should I be putting my project up on Donedeal to avoid the hassle and keep my eye out for a chancey Octavia?

Thanks in advance for any info on this!!

Colin.

Mr jjbiker stick your pps number down where it asks for ur tax number it works so I've been told

Also ask around before taxing it as Meath tax office have different criteria to Cavan tax office so ring Cavan find out the full story then ring ur local and if both places are different demand to speak to someone who knows what the he'll is going on

A PPS number should do, which is hilarious coz even unemployed people have a PPS so providing a PPS proves nowt... I have heard of lads using VAT numbers from any old company, mainly just copyin one from a reciept or invoice off something they purchased  ...

I have also heard that it should be only new vans or newly imported vans that will require this form, any van already reged and taxed should NOT need this form stamped, but whether the tax office staff understand that is another thing..

I used my PPS number and got sorted no problem lad's.

Most Gardai won't enforce this or ask any questions as they're human too and not gonna arrest you if spotted with you child in front and a loaf of bread in the back for tomorrows lunch on the way home from a day's work!! (plus like all other public servants their overtime/benifets have been cut to shit so why should they care!!)

Secondly the goods declaration form is confidential and is not passed onto the revenue and in my view they should be damn glad we're taxing our vans considering the age old story , the state of our roads!

Even though this law has always been there we can thank the greedy nama'ised boys that shafted us and looked down their noses at us in the "good times" for resurecting it. Now that things aren't as rosey and the arse has fallen out of the value of their passenger VSE, X5 or Q7 they have followed a trend of commercialising and re regestering their status symbol piss cans hense all the hype in recent months.

Now I think my 6 month old has gone back to sleep I can return for part 2 of the Sat morning sleep in!

Good morning!!!
