Hi guys, noticed yesterday that on idle in neutral there seems to be vibration coming through the clutch pedal! Thinking the dual mass is starting to die, I've been looking around for replacement clutch and flywheel kits and there is a lot of single mass kits about which are much cheaper. Does it make a difference/should I if I fit a single mass kit?

Personally I'd go OEM and refit a dual mass, VW obviously have a reason for it, yes it's a lot for comfort for the driver but the less vibration the less stress on your engine internals.
I've heard of people complaining after fitting single mass of clunking changing gear etc

As it's going for a remap in a couple of weeks I figure it ought to have a new clutch flywheel kit at the same time! Think OEM is the way forward!

I have a SACH single mass conversion in my 1.9 tdi caddy and cant fault it.

I had a valeo single mass with my 5 speed box and put a used dual mass in when I converted to 6 speed and it's definitely better in my opinion

Essentially, the dual mass flywheel is a harmonic balancer. It's there to smooth out the pulses from the crankshaft.

Not having it can have an effect on the life of the crankshaft. I don't know how significant any effect would be.

So, you have to make a judgement call on which way to go.

Ive bought my 2006 Caddy the other day and there is a slight vibration in the clutch pedal when engaged. Does this mean I need a new DMF?

Booked it into Awesome for belt and service in a couple of weeks. What happens if I dont get the vibration sorted? I want to go to Cornwall in it on the 9th... Clutch isnt slipping by the way.

James I wouldn't be worried about it until you can hear a slight rattle when in neutral or a distinct vibration on the clutch pedal

Thanks Ryan. Seen a Sachs kit (DMF, Clutch and bearing with new bolts etc) on eBay for £290

Asked a mate who has his garage about the job, may aswell get it done.

It just feels like a slight "wobble" under foot when in neutral .... no juddering when pulling off. I dont want to risk it failing and sending a shockwave down the crankshaft... think I've been reading too much on the internet to be honest. :-)

Yeah you have been reading into it wayyyy to much, I convinced myself mine had gone, but it was just me overthinking it and a very slight injector issue, nothing to do with the DMF, get your mate to have a look at it. £290 for the kit isn't a bad price at all

I've had my caddy a year now, bought on 91k now on 101k, I thought mine was on way out as when I fully depressed pedal it vibrated but it's still fine and after our jetta dmf went I can definitely say you know when it's gone

i put solid flywheels in a few 1.8t never had any problems
