Service book stamps
Can only vw dealerships give a vw stamp in the service book or are some independents accredited to do so? Currently got a full dealership service history so would like to maintain that trend but they want big money for a service. Or is it better to bite the bullet and pay the extra?

I get the garage i go to to stamp it with their own stamp. It's not VW but it shows you serviced regularly and they can always do a check if they want. Better than nothing....If your vans under a warranty maybe you need to go to a VW dealer though...im not sure

Not under warranty, but being as all the stamps to date are main dealership didn't know whether it was best to maintain that trend when it comes to selling the van on. Or are people just happy with fsh, no matter who's done it? Whats the general feeling out there?

Re: Service book stamps
Only VW can stamp your book with a vw dealership stamp. However, in terms of your warranty, with block exemption rules, any independant can service your van, so long as they follow the proper schedule, use genuine parts, and are VAT registered, your warranty is still valid. I would have thought full history from any reputable garage (including vw specialists) would be just as good as a full vw history, but then im biased!

Sam.

Don't think a Dealer stamp/history makes a difference, think again..
When I worked for Volvo, we had just out of college kids swinging on spanners, then the history booked would be stamped..
Worth the extra £500 or so for dealer history, not in my eyes..
Moded caddies, will more than likely be brought by people how are into their motors, so are probably more clued up. A specialist history would make me happy..

Re: Service book stamps
VW do a loyalty scheme for parts and servicing, 15% off between 3-5 years old and 25% off if 5 years plus.
I go to my local independent for everything except servicing. I've always had dealership stamps if possible and the prices aren't that different. Also, if you've got more than one dealership nearby phone them all for quotes. When I had a Ford there were 3 dealerships closeby all quoting different prices.
I think a VW specialist is just as good.
Also depends who you sell to. Some people couldn't give a toss who's serviced it and when whilst others do. If you've looked after it you're likely to sell it at a slight premium to someone else who will look after it so it's worth paying more attention to your service history.

Re: Service book stamps
I'd rather buy a van with a well stamped book than one thats not got any stamps, to me it doesn't matter main dealer or not. My mate services all my cars and will do the van, as he doesn't have a stamp he signs it and writes his company name in and thats it. Get a VW Specialist to stamp it? That helps selling aswell as a main dealer history, but just cos a books stamped doesn't mean it's true. If i get a book i can have it stamped and falsified from it's 1st service to now, so a FSH isn't always true nor show the works truely been done!
My van has VW Stamps though and a printout from day 1 and the stamps go to current mileage, well slightly below at 92k and it's currently on 94k

Fully agree with this, I'll never let the stealership monkeys near my van.

Re: Service book stamps
One thing u need to be careful of though is this, when trading in the dealership will ask if it's a main dealer history or not. If you say not it does affect you're trade in value. I know this first hand as i know a lot of salesman. I had it with my Fabia, as it wasn't a full skoda history i was getting offerred a grand less! So ended up selling private, so u can't win either way

Re: Service book stamps
years ago i got a nissan vanette "servised" by a genuine nissan dealer
apart from them putting a saddle on me first, when i got the van back i simply lifted up the passenger seat and much to my not surprise the oil filter was as black and dirty as when in was brought in to them.i think most of them chage you for a pro and get the monkey boy whos on minium wage to practice on your pride and joy.and it states that when you get your vehicle serviced by a garage thats simi regisrersd and they stamp your book your arse is covered.
and theres a lot less chance of getting ripped off.
