Caddy sdi looking at tdi swap

Not long brought this caddy sdi and well as you probably know it's painfully slow with a 0-60 in 2 weeks.

And before anyone says it yes it'll be easier just to buy a tdi and cheaper... but I got this caddy very very cheap so will be cheaper for me to chuck an engine in it.

So what engine?

Is there and engine that I could just drop straight in along with loom/ecu/clocks/gearbox done.

Is there alot of work in putting the 1.6 tdi out the newer caddy in it? Or am I best going for the tdi engine out the same model as mine?

Cheers

how cheap is very cheap? you will probably be looking around the £1500-2000 mark as a guess

because of the problems with some of the 1.6 tdi's id go for a 1.9 from a mk4 golf or bkd/bmm

It's a 2009 with electric pack and aircon but as I said it's a sdi but got it for £600.

Not that wise on commercial stuff but I'm sure that's cheap for a caddy.

Will be doing the work myself well my dad and my brother haha, so labour isn't a problem it's just sourcing the parts.

ok you have a couple options.

the cheap one.

you need a donor caddy.

option 2

a bls ecu, radiator, fusebox, pipes, cam sensor, cam pulley and a golf mk4 engine.

john holmes has everything you need.

it should cost under £1000 for all the parts

Donor does seem like a easier option but caddy's being expensive I bet even salvage caddy's are dear.

And is that the bls engine out the mk4 golf?

Cheers buddy appreciate the help.

Will try for a donor caddy first and I have no success I'll get in touch for some pointers on doing it the other way.

dont go for a 1.6 made between 2010-2014 or a 105bhp 1.9

any 2.0L would be my preference

a mk5 golf or touran would also be a good donor

Might be able to get hold of a rear ended caddy with the 1.6 tdi for a decent price, what are the 1.6 tdi's like at high milage? As I think it's done over 100,000?

as long as its got a good service history should be ok.

what year is it? if it has ceramic injectors avoid it

I would have no objection to a 1.6 engine. The injectors prior to 2013 had an inherent fault but not all fail. If your fit to do the conversion the you'll 99.9% be fit to change out a faulty injector at the side of the road. If it were me I'd keep one (new one, not used, not "reconditioned") in the glove box.

google ceramic injectors. then google ceramic glow plugs there is a reason they stopped using both.

they are not as durable as solinoid injectors and are known to suffer premature failure
