Central locking install?

Post by Bumblebee58627 »

I bought a 2007 Caddy , with no aircon , no electric windows and no central locking.

how easy would it be to install electric windows and central locking?
Would it be better to buy OEM from a scrapyard or after market?
And anyone in South africa know where to get it?

Also how easy would it be to install front fog/spot lights on a panel van bumper?

Do you have central locking (all door lock/unlock when you use the key in drivers door) but just no remote control?
It is likely your central convenience module (CCM) will support remote central locking (RCL) and a simple pairing of the correct remote should allow you to use this.
Can you get the part number from you CCM? It's located behind the glove box.

So you have to lock and unlock each door manually, one at a time? Thats very poor for a car produced in 2007.
I suspect you have a bigger problem if this is the case, the doors should all lock when you lock the drivers door with the key in the lock barrel and unlock just the same.

Yes, I have to lock all the doors manually, which is a big inconvenience... the 2007 caddy was advertised without central locking,
If it should lock when I turn the key on the door, what could be the problem?

And any idea of how hard it can be to install central locking, even if it manual central locking with turning the key in the door slot?

Best first port of call would be a full VCDS diagnostics scan to determine if the need to manually lock each door if by fault or design. Maybe the locks are capable of operating centrally but the function is disabled in some control module. Maybe there was a extreme poverty spec that was available in SA and some wiring was left out to fit into a price point.
