Hi has anyone had there van broken into? Are caddys an easy target or is there something that can be done to prevent break ins?

Caddy's not a standard target due to factory deadlocks. It's fords (keys available from Amazon) and Citroen's (with an airbag in the side door) that are most common. Vw can have a new key coded and nicked that way, but not overly common.

I have external locks on mine and plastered up with camping stickers . Looking at a shed pir alarm too for added peace of mind.

Hate the low life scum that make this necessary.

Thanks I've got a t5 with extra locks fitted to it at the moment but looking to swap for the latest caddy and I've only seen the extra locks fitted on the caddy high up the door and don't like it, do you have any pics of your locks? I also have a Clifford canbus upgrade alarm on the t5 and thinking might just have another fitted on the caddy

Are those stainless type plates no good? I presume they bolt through and not just glued on.

There are different types of locks,

The locks I am talking about getting are deadlocks - you turn the key and a rectangle bolt opens up into the plate opening - (which you fit)

If you are unsure about these then its probably best to get someone to fit them for you so a proper job is done.

Each van is different, caddys don't really need reinforcement - but vans like Renault traffic and transit van have reinforcement plates installed to give you that extra protection.

I believe they are riveted or as you say screwed down to the lock mechanism or even the van panel - Don't think they are glued down, but have heard you can stick a bit of silicone behind the key cover for extra safety but don't believe you have to.
