Subs behind seats

Post by sharpy52 »

Is there a off the shelf box for a 10in sub that fits in the space under and behind the passenger seat on a mk3 caddy. Dont really have the time or skills to make somthing myself.

I have tried fitting a vibe 10 inch cbr with no joy so still in the back now lol. Will have to be a custom box I think easy enough to do to hide it away but you might loose some bass at the same time then.

I have no bulkhead so will just pull the seat out and measure away. Plenty of room in there for a 10 inch maybe even 12. Think it will be a good idea to make it a tilted box if you know what I mean. And fix the amp on the box also so use up the room. I will be making one soon when I have time and will be using all the parts from the vibe I have. Will try to replicate the vibe box just with smaller dimensions.

There is about 100mm of insulation under the front seats - I'm mounting a battery box under the seat for my Touran R32 conversion.
Certainly if you remove the insulation, carpet and the drawers under the Touran seat, you can get 200mm+ of height in there.

Dunno if that helps with a sub... but I thought I'd say anyway

I've got 2x 12 JL subs in mine I've cut out the plastic bulk head and fitted the box in there.the subs are behind the seats and the air port blows into the cab too. None of the back vibrates just the interior light

If you have kept the bulkhead surely you could just go smaller and fit a couple of 8" under the seats! I know I've got loads of space under mine.

It may be on the small side, but measure the space you have available and then check who does subs which can handle the cu/ft space you have

Subs behind seats

I made a new flat 18 liter box and used a Alpine 8" woofer swe 815... very good price quality. It comes with a super small receiver with controller so thats superb. Will be an easy fit even with the oem headunits which not support subs. Went partly under and behind the passenger seat.

I was looking at this today. And thought about using 6x9 speaker boxes. In both parts beheind seats. Lot of wasted space there.

i run a vibe Optisound 8. fits under seat a treat and has got enough bass for my solid bulk head cabin. i use the van for work gear so i have no space to have one in the back. paid £135from fleabay and comes with all the wires and its active.

it even surprises me sometime how good it is. arm on the window and feel the rumble!!

Sharply, got any pictures as I want to Chuck a sub in the same place then replace the door speakers and insert tweeters on the dash with a new headunit, ideally keeping the bulkhead unless I can a new one.

Thanks

I use and Alpine with integrated sub, really nice and balanced with upgraded door speakers and 6x9 in the back.
