Re: Pd engine and 6 speed box conversion?
I am currently doing this. It is not that difficult but it can take time to figure some of the stuff out.
On the donor engine you will need to modify the block to take the new style crank sensor and trigger wheel (which is part of the rear crank seal). You can use all of the existing Caddy ancillaries/boost pipes/airbox/engine management/etc. but you will need a remap to make the most of the engine.
You could try using the old EDC15 control/wiring (from the donor - Golf 4 platform vehicles) and not have to bother with a custom remap but I'm not sure if the version of CAN is the same and/or if it would talk to the instrument cluster/ABS/ESP/other systems. I would like to try, but I didn't get all of the donor components - I bought my van as a franken-project which I am now trying to sort out
**EDIT: I've just seen that you have a 1.6 CR, so this would be a major undertaking...! Better off to start with a 1.9TDI Caddy if you *really* wanted to do this...

Thanks niall.. yeah I think that's too much for me to do lol, not mechanically but I'd struggle with the electrics side of things..
Do you know if it's possible to fit a 6 speed box to a 1.6 ?
And is yours a 1.6 baggedcaddy?
