Cluster scratches

Post by Tee-caddy »

Hi
I have annoying fine scratches along the bottom of my cluster screen from previous owner.
Any of you guys have a solution to getting rid of them as they bug me and make it look scruffy.
Thanks
Tee

Tape up the trim around it before attempting anything as the polish residue is a pain to get out of the dash plastics. I've recently been polishing a MK6 Golf cluster and it took a bit of work - required quite a few passes with polish to remove deep scratches. Its easier if you can take the cluster out of the dash. I used a combination of things, but the one that made it easier was a Rupes Bigfoot Nano mini polisher and some of their cutting compound on the coarse pad. Megs PlastX is pretty good but needs quite a bit of elbow grease. You can also use metal polish as its an abrasive. I've seen people restore headlights using things like autosol and certain brands of toothpaste!

Thats great guy.
Thanks for your input i actually thought using a fine abrasive would have make the clear perspex clouded.
Now i know its tried and tested i wont worry about making it worse.
Excellent advice from yourself's
Cheers
