Extras with VCDS
I've just got Ross tech HEX VCDS to have a play with and try and get clued up with it, is there anyone near West Dorset that could show me how it works and how to get the best out of it?
Also my van has high beam assist AEB adaptive cruise park assist etc etc. How hard would it be to get traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist and traffic assist?

Hi mate how much did you pay for the cable and software if you don't mind me asking? I have an automotive electrician friend who has offered his time to teach me

Re: Extras with VCDS
New genuine VCDS cables are around £220 - £240.
Don't buy the copies. They are counterfeit and are defrauding Ross-Tech the manufacturers.
The counterfeit versions all tell you not to connect to the internet because as soon as you do Ross-Tech will disable them.

Wow! £240 is half what I would have expected to pay, is that including all the software? Many thanks to you and do you have a contact who supplies it?

I've bought all my VCDS equipment through Gendan.co.uk. All genuine and the prices are within a couple of pounds between all the official UK outlets.

Re: Extras with VCDS
There isn't a huge amount that isn't already enabled to be honest, almost to the point of it probably being cheaper to find someone with VCDS, and to bung them a few quid for them to do the tweaks you want.Sportvan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2017 11:11 am I've just got Ross tech HEX VCDS to have a play with and try and get clued up with it, is there anyone near West Dorset that could show me how it works and how to get the best out of it?

So far with mine i have..
Changed leaving/coming home lights to fogs instead of headlights, and for coming home to come on automatically when drivers door opened.
Changed comfort blink to 4 instead of 3.
Enabled teardrop wipe.
There are a couple more things that can be tweaked, but there isnt much left to enable.
Not sure about lane assist and traffic sign recognition. (Whats AEB?) Unless the vehicle was specced with it, it isn't always possible to enable, mainly down to the module type, but most often, is if the module has even been programmed for the facility. If it hasn't, then it wont work, unless you are feeling brave.
One thing you should be able to tweak is the HBA speed that it operates at. 36mph is just bloody stupid, especially if you live in an area where there are slow, windy roads that are unlit, as most of the time, its impossible to get over 30!

AEB is Automatic Emergency Braking, so if the sensors detect a possible collision the van will apply the brakes to avoid or lessen the impact speed.
When I went to the dealer about a Caddy I was told it could take a stupid amount of time to get it built, then he found the one I purchased on the system and sent it over including the price (which I laughed at!) he then discounted it a huge amount without much haggling so I bought it. It has pretty much everything fitted. So, I was just wondering if traffic sign recognition was possible due to having the camera up front and the lane keep assist for the same reason. Most of its automated already. Just want as much stress taken out of driving as possible!!
