Cheapskate Caddy 4 Engine Cover Mod / Hack

Post by Whitey »

Howdy folks,

A little tip / hack for Caddy 4 owners in need of an engine cover... you can of course buy a brand new one, I did this...

Bought a Seat engine cover with same pn variant

Image

Flipped it over and gently removed the foam away from a couple of tabs

Image

Hello... whats this?

Pushed out the Seat badge with a blunt object (in between the vw logo)...

Image

Voila... oem without the cost, ok so there is no silver paint on the TDI and VW logo... I can live with that considering what i paid for it :)

Image

Part numbers if you need them

Image

PLEASE NOTE - This does NOT work for the Skoda version (the skoda badge is moulded like the vw version!)

Nice one. Good spot.
Ive just picked up a 04l103925 but it had Q at the end of the pn. Ill update if it fits. Had the silver vw and tdi.
Do i need any other fittings or simply push on?

Hey mate, should be fine with the proper vw version. You will need 2 x ball head pins for the lower end of the engine (top 2 are already there). Don't have a part number but it's 9 and 12 in the image (think they're pretty generic) :)

Part Numbers I went with were

Ball heads x 2 = 04L103164
Oil Seal Ring x1 = 04L133287

and the cover was part number = 04L103925 Q

I obviously have not yet tested these but will update to confirm 100% that they fit when they arrive. I ordered from https://cars245.co.uk/ but have just realised they are not actually in the UK

Yes I can confirm those part numbers above fit. Do not buy from cars245 though. Took almost 4 weeks! Had no response from them on email either.

Very helpful thread - thanks a lot!

Cover ordered from flebay, ball heads and oil seal ordered from the stealers. Fingers crossed it all fits!

I got a seat one off ebay (delivery miles only so nice and clean) for £20 inc delivery. Think they're about £65 new :)

Good going that!!

Now time to find some nicer caps to smarten mine up. Maybe a plastic battery cover too.
