Caddy sat nav help !

Post by Tin2080 »

Hi all
Looking to replace my original radio in my 2013 plate highline ..
Which unit should I go for ?
Aftermarket which seem value for money or genuine rns 315 or 510 which are more £££..
Do aftermarket fit without alterations ?
Any recommendations guys

If I can help I have just bought a rns 315 dab 2014 from a salvager for £250 plus £6.99 for the code, I have gone down the road of after market i.e. I have a kenwood dnx 525 in my t5 it's ok but not worth the £900 and I had to fit it. Yes the screen isn't as big and the kenwood looks nice but the rns fitted right dose more inter grating on the clocks etc and you can update the satnav cheaper on the rns 315.
Hope this helps

I went down the aftermarket route on my Caddy 4, pioneer F88 not cheap but it is good, not sure it's worth what I paid for it but wanted a built in sat nav and apple car play. I had a 315 in my last car and with the information on your dash was very good, the best unit I have ever had from a factory unit. I have low line dash so that's why I went aftermarket to be honest. I did try the Kenwood but it was not the best to be honest.

Thanks for the info really appreciated ..
My head says use genuine 315 keep van original but my heart likes the big screens that kenwood and pioneer supply ..
Do the kenwood and pioneer just plug and play or is there tech work to do ?

If you get the vw kenwood i.e. The dnx 525 or the new one they do, no sure of the model number are plug and play but don't integrate with the dash clocks like genuine vw ones do. But the new kenwood one has car play but is about £1000 on eBay. :D

The pioneer f88 is a good unit, I suppose it also depends what dash you have, if you have low line dash and are keeping it then you maybe better going after market, the Pioneer has apple car play and android auto so covers all bases really. The sat nav works well and is easy to use. It was fitted so can't comment on how easy it was but it's all plug and play no cutting required. Where are you based, your welcome to have a play with it. I'm going to Tatton park if that's any good.

I have both units 510 in caddy 315 in golf.
315 is a good unit especially as it's all in 1 phone, dab radio touch screen usage etc but there's a few bits with the phone side not as good and only partial postcode search.
510 is great bigger screen better nav but u do need separate phone kit and it comes at a price ££££
Both work nice through the dash and steering controls I prefer 510 but really comes down to budget

Guys
Thanks for all the advice and pics ..
I'm gonna go with the 315 as it looks a good unit and price is reasonable too.
I don't have steering wheel controls at the mo so would this be a problem if I fit 315?
Would this be the right time to install the steering wheel controls ?
I'm happy with my original leather highline wheel so would like to replace the blanks with the button controls .. £70 on eBay ..
Have you guys carried out this mod before ?

Thanks again
Can I ask what unit you fitted ?
What was the cost ?
Is it a straight forward job - old one out new one in without any modifications ?

Looks really nice by the way

Ive just fittted a Pumpkin HU, the 2 GB 5.1 model....make sure you get the 2GB

I was very sceptical but its a great HU, much better than the OEM Kenwood touch screen it replaced.

I have a 128GB pen drive plugged in for all my tunes.

SQ is just as good as the kenwood, DAB works great, tomtom runs perfect and it can even plug into the OBD port to read faults, temps and other telemetry.

I even fitted the optional reverse cam it.

I'm get some pics when I get home.
