Some basic wiring advice please
I seem to say this a lot on here but I have zero clue when it comes to electrics so can somebody help me with a bit of basic advice please?
I'm going to be fitting some genuine Vw led drl's into my Scirocco R bumper and want to wire them directly to the existing fog light wires on my van. I know I'll get a light on my dash but I can live with that.
Obviously the connectors are different so I'll need to cut and join the wires, no problem there.
My existing fog lights have 2 wires going to them and the scirocco drl's have 3. What do I join to what?
Thanks

3 wires are most likely ground, full brightness and dimmed when your headlights turn onBarbel330 wrote:I seem to say this a lot on here but I have zero clue when it comes to electrics so can somebody help me with a bit of basic advice please?

Brown wire is ground in Vw wiring.
If your drl's are aftermarket, I can't say if this is still the case.

They're genuine VW drl's.
So brown to brown, then should I put both of the other scirocco wires to the single caddy one?

You don't need to put up with a bulb error on your dash, that can be coded out.
If my memory serves me correctly the Scirocco lower lights perform DRL and fog function. Try them on a battery to determine which is DRL and which is fog, brown being ground/negative/earth.
You might find that they don't work at all off the fog light output, same as any other bulb, if a fault is flagged up the output is turned off.

Ok, I tried brown to brown and yellow/white to black (grey seemed to do nothing) When I switch the fog lights on the LED lights come on for 3 seconds then they go off.
Any ideas guys?

Re: Some basic wiring advice please
Do you get the bulb out warning message when the LEDS go off after 3 seconds?
If so it seems as if the system senses the LEDS as blown bulbs and switches off the power as Doc mentioned above.

Re: Some basic wiring advice please
The dash light is on already as I've removed the old fog lamps so that may be the case.
How can I fix that?

Re: Some basic wiring advice please
You need to have someone remove the cold and warm diagnostics and also program the fog outputs as LED.
If you have someone with VCP local, they "should" know how.
