Lowered van now catching

Post by Glen G »

Hey guys this is a question for all the lads who have lowered there caddy

Iv lowered my caddy on a set of bilstein coilovers, shocks and shackles.. Iv only lowered the back about 60 i think it might be less because I still use for work etc... Iv noticed if I go over speed bumps she's catching just if I slow right down no problem.... Just wanted to know do any of you get this?

Here's how she's sitting at the minute Image

It's probably the mud flaps. I've lowered mine 45mm and they caught on everything and bottomed out on dips in the road to the extent the front ones shattered. I look them off and all is good
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is

Mine does it and was the exhaust catching. Move the exhaust out the way cut a notch in the metal and hammer it over job done plus spray dealer to protect the exposed metal

Hows the ride on the bilstiens?

Mine is too soft even for work but I cannot have it too stiff for the same reason.

Lee.

EDIT: Just seen costs...900 is too much. I just need to make it stiffer, not necessarily lower.

You can lower it on bilstein b8's shortened uprated dampers, a Darkside axel flip and either H&R or Eibach springs. All that will still cost you £750 but you can do it in little bits and replace dampers when they start popping seals.

It'd definitely not mud flaps mate it's hitting something metal. But I don't know what...

The ride is great it's nearly as good as standard setup just lower lol very comfortable... Bug difference to my car that's lowered on BC coils

I would say it's Catching on the metal lip above the back box as mine was doing it. Just go on the floor and look under the exhaust and move it up and down and you will see where it is catching it's between the back box and the exhaust tail pipe

Iv got a knock to look at too, seems like if I go over a speed bump at more then 5mph it feels as if it bottoms out!

It could be your bump stops. If you can't find anything metal that shows signs of being scuffed I'd check the bump stops. Have you cut them down at all?

Have you got an extra low kit on the back? because it would have centralisation plates if so.
