I just had mine in for a timing belt/water pump and was asked if i would like the recall work done.
I was also told i was allowed to opt out so gladly declined it after hearing all the stories of increased fuel usage and EGR problems.
51k without any dramas, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Re: Emission recall
Funnily enough I've just switched over to strictly running v power only and MPG has improved.
Also seems to be generally more smoother but that could be a placebo effect.
I won't be switching back to Sainsbury's fuel anytime soon.

Re: Emission recall
I've tried to use super in every car I've owned since putting Sainsbury's crap in my g60 golf years ago, I swear I lost 50bhp that day!
I've seen what the cheap stuff does to fuel filters let alone injectors.
False economy to use the stuff

Re: Emission recall
I agree, if you have the choice to opt out, run away fast and don't look back.
If you have a vehicle that has had the "fix" applied, stick to using at least a branded fuel .
Try using a premium fuel and see how it goes, BP and Shell are both a noticeable improvement on engine noise and torque at low rpm.

Re: Emission recall
I have heard that if you have it done you will get 2 years extended warranty, which covers the injectors and EGR ? (vehicles under 160 000) is that true?
Edit
I have been in vw garage today and asked them that question...
The guys on 'front desks' says that they are not aware of any bad out put from emission fix and also there is no a problem with 1.6 injectors. Also they never heard regarding extended two years warranty and they are unsure... I have seen they manager witch took me in to his office and had non official conversations with me. He have confirmed the 2 years warranty, however he personaly don't recommend it to have it 'fixed' lol
