Re: Remapping
Sorry for the slight hijack, I'm also looking for a remap in the NW, but can anyone explain to me the difference in remappers prices?
Why do some places charge £200 for it and others £500, what is the difference?
I realise this is possibly a contentious issue, and in no way want to upset any remappers, so perhaps don't name any names, but any enlightenment here would be a great help in making a decision.

Re: Remapping
There are several differences in what remappers can offer.
1. Tools. Some invest lots of money in quality tools with proper tech support if needed, others rely on eBay copies. Some have the tools to recover your ECU if something goes wrong, others will just drive away.
2. Insurance. A lot of mobile remappers will probably be under insured if insured at all, and this might possibly leave you in the shit.
3. Backup and warranty. It's very easy for these cheap remappers to block you on Facebook and on the phone and then you're left with zero comeback.
4. Proper testing before and after. I'd be very wary of a remapper who didn't at least carry out some diagnostics runs before and after. Whether that be on road or Dyno it doesn't matter, so long as a health check is performed.
5. The map. Rewriting a map is something very specialised and takes a long time to master. The bottom of the pile are mappers using £30 eBay files of which they have no knowledge. Top end is the guy who most likely originally wrote the eBay file before it was copied, he can custom tune across the rev range to give optimal performance, gains and reliability.

Remapping
Master and slave tools... most on the market are slave tuners... they know how to download the oem software and later on to push the enter button to upload the software on the ecu...
A Master tool allows someone who has the knowledge of real remapping to change each individual file... that are the real tuners and they are in general the most expensive ones and these companies are rare in comparance to the "chiptuners" who push files into the ecu and if they get in trouble they Dont know what to do... and their software can ruin an engine or other Parts.
Who handels the master tool with specific software to remap each individual engine... takes a lot time and your car Will be there all day or even longer.

Re: Remapping
Hi all, sorry for another hijack.
I'm based near Exeter and looking for a garage to do a re-map. Does anyone know a reputable one in the area.
I've been recommended Celtic in Newquay but not heard much about them
