Tailgate to barn door conversion

Post by Ripper182 »

Hi everyone, I have a new shape 2016 caddy high line and I want to do a conversion from Tailgate to barn door. I bought the van from new and at the time I never really put anything on my roof, now I have ladders on all the time and not being able to open the door properly with ladders on is doing my head in.
Anyone done the conversion before? Help needed please.
Cheers
John

I’m currently getting all the parts for the opposite , I haven’t seen anybody do the conversion from tailgate to barn . But if you are selling any of the bits might be interested.

Let’s swap vans it’ll be easier. Lol

Hopefully someone will know, there seems to be some markings where the hinges would go that look a little like a spot welds, but they seem to line up to where the hinges would go. I wondered if the panels would be strong enough.
I have a solid rear tailgate no glass.

Cheers

The tailgate has additional structure in the roof to strengthen it. It might be that those need to come out. As it’s possible to go the opposite way like I’ve had done, I’m sure it’s possible. Might be worth chatting to a body shop to find out what they’d need to do and how much. Reflex have done 2 barn doors to tailgate conversions so could possibly price it for you.

It was Reflex that did mine. The facelift tailgate is obviously expensive as the parts aren’t available secondhand - think the tailgate alone is £800. Going the opposite way could be done cheaper as you could source secondhand parts a lot more readily.

Hard to say as it was invoiced as part of a bigger job. Best talk to Reflex for a quote.
