Post by Sibo »

Looking at buying a new stereo with sat nav and maybe reverse cam, any recommendations. Also should I swap out standard be speakers for something else? Thanks

I've just bought an Extrons jobber that would tick those boxes.

It should arrive tomorrow, so I'll let you know how I find it.

Speakers in mine are extremely good for OEM.

Look at the Pumpkin units on Amazon.

Speakers probably differ for the different models, they're terrible in our Startline. I've ordered Focal IC 165's to replace them.

I've done a bit of research on the Android headunits, you can get quite a range of internals from a range of brands in units that look identical, you've got to check cpu model, radio chip, amp chip etc. to have any idea what you're getting.
The best two I've found are the Pumpkin with Android 7.1 and the 8 core Xtrons with Android 6.0, both around £270. Cheaper alternatives are the Pumpkin with Android 5.1 at around £220 or the version of the 8 core Xtrons with the larger screen and no dials at around £250, or you can get winCE ones that I haven't looked into for much less. Double DIN fitment rather than VW specific are also cheaper but more effort to fit.
There's a used Pumpkin on ebay that has been relisted at least once so they may take a low offer, previously £150 now £180, item number 263245417145.
All are available on both ebay and amazon.
This is just from reading reviews and specs though, no direct experience, they have a 30 day money back guarantee so I'm not buying until I'm ready to fit it.

Good point about the speakers.....I’m amazed how good mine are so they must be a Highline option? Or when the Kenwood option was fitted at the factory/dealer the speakers were done aswell?

Personally I would only buy a Android unit from Amazon as they can be quite buggy.
