Coilovers

Post by Mmoccia »

So I bought my first caddy in October and I feel it's time to look at lowering and alloys.

Can anyone shed some light on a decent set of coilovers?

I use the van to make deliveries to my customers so I want something with a little comfort but not pat over the odds either.

Cheers in advanced.

There's lots of threads on the brakes and suspension forums but you won't have full access yet so I'll give you some pointers. Bilstien seems to be the top dog but ST Suspension STX coilover kit is a fraction of the cost of Bilstiens and get decent reviews, VMaxx are another with mixed reviews. It's worth a visit to Darkside Developments website aswell

I have just put Vmaxx xxtreame on only use these as the other VMaxx are rubbish. They ride really nice so far. But it really depends on how much you wanna spend. Work out your budget. Find two you think are good then as on the forum if anyone has them. I went for Vmaxx as that’s the budget I had. If I had unlimited budget then I would have been looking at other stuff. If you want Vmaxx then let me know I can meet you and let you test them.

The STX full kit is £525 on Darkside as opposed to over £900 for a Bilstien kit

JOM coilovers aren't too bad either. I have them on my golf mk1, my friend has them on his mk3 jetta, and I have them on my Van, the drive is amazing, took it on gravel roads, mountain roads, bad roads, they are super comfortable.

That is turned up to almost the heights in front and on the 2nd hole of the shackles in the back.Image

Jom sportline on lowest front and rear need a relocation plate extra 60 quid mate unless u make one so about 280 all in not too bouncy but I bottom out alot with mtb no loads.slowly cut down bump stops bit at a time and mud flaps self trim you get what you pay for but cheap lows.ImageImage

I see a lot of adverts for Pro Sports, how do these compare, they are roughly same price as JOM.

I'm starting to move more towards KW ST X coilovers because as people say you pay for what you get and I'm in this van a lot, I do roughly 500 miles a week.

If your doing 500 a week make sure you get adjustable dampening as some coilovers ride hard as they are designed for tracks. If you get adjustable ones your can have them how you like them. I do around 300 a week and mine are 6 clicks out of 20 towards is softest setting on the fronts. They ride so nice. But I do think you get what you pay for.
