Post by L8PEA »

It my first and I really wanted a black one but mine is white a load of extra bits and bobs on it. I'm thinking of giving it a colour change to black. What do you all think?

Some people will say don't bother sell up and buy a different van as it be easier, But IMO if you're happy with your van and you don't mind the work/cost then id go for it, that's what I have done, I have a van I know where I stand with it, know it has no hidden problems so id rather stick with what I have and make it what I want, but that's my way if doing things. I have changed engine, colour and front end lol

You know what you have now... with trading it for a Black one you do not know what you Will get back... i would say change it and its easier when you want to upgrade it visual to a younger one into Black and it Will be Smooth as Well, no sratches etc.

I can do it as proper that people think that it is paint from factory. A Wrap is in Black not as Nice as a full paintjob. I can do that and Gloss Black scratches fast. Gloss Metallic as Well but there are other stunning colors on the market as Well. In case of Black choose for a paintjob for the long term Thats a better choice.

Learn to like the colour of the van you have. Or trade it in on a black one. Getting a factory quality black respray will cost more than the trade in - especially if you don't want your engine bay looking out of place.

I'm a painter by trade and a colour change is a big job to do properly

As said above, learn to love it or trade it in :)

colour change and face lift

Post by Big Pimp »

It is a big job but far from un-doable.

I had my white van pained from white to vw deep black pearl. Inside doors, handles, seals off (even had the windscreen changed) as well as all dents, scrapes and bumps sorted for not much more than a good wrap would have cost.

I’ve a build thread up here if you search my name

I have had a Black VW T5 GP... looks great but never again, always dirty and during spring summer and autumn in the sun heated up too much. I prefer silver, less work and always Nice even in the full sun.

Wrapping it might be a good option and probably cheaper than repainting

Gloss Black with or without metallic isn’t super nice as a wrap, very sensibel for scratches. Is nice for roof and mirrors and details but not as a full wrap to be honest.
