Replacing headlight - straight forward?

Evening everyone...

Had a fight with a pheasant the other day - punched a hole in my headlight unit!

Anybody replaced theirs (bumper not pheasant)?

I'm guessing the bumper has to come off?

But as far as I know, all years require bumper off.

I managed to get both mine out of my 11 model yesterday without the bumper off, but it wasn’t that easy.

Would definitely take the bumper off next time

I changed my bumper a while back, if I remember rightly it was 4 bolts per wheel arch, 4 bolts underneath and 2 up top. If youre careful, you shouldn’t snap anything getting the old one off.......I’m a ham fisted so and so, and I didn’t

Did you whip the wheels off to reach the bolts under the arches?

Front bumper is a piece of cake to remove and refit. Just be aware of the screws at the very top in the wheel arches as they are really difficult to spot. You'll have to turn the wheels in full lock each side to gain access.

No need for wheels off. Once you've done it and know where the bolts are located it's very quick and easy to remove the bumper. I reckon I can get mine off in under 2 minutes now, I've had it on and off so many times.

It's quite difficult to explain this in writing but I'll try.

All bolts are torx, can't remember the exact size but once you've found the size they're all the same. One side at a time, there is one inside the arch facing upwards in a little recess at the point where the bumper meets the front wing. Then there's 2 below that (middle and bottom of the arch) which attach the bumper to the plastic arch liner. If you turn the wheels full lock it's easier to get a ratchet on them. Then there are a couple underneath the front of the bumper which attach it to the plastic under tray piece. Tthey're are two bolts on the top of the grill which you'll see if you open the bonnet. Once these are all undone you have to push the 3 clips that hold the grill to the front panel. There are little slots which you simply push a screwdriver into to release the sprung clips.

Once all that is undone, grab hold of each side of the bumper (one side at a time) and give it a good yank outwards. This is to release the bumper from its clips which are located along the panel gap between bumper and front wing.

That's it as far as I can remember.

Well guys - managed to replace the unit buy just loosening the bumper. Tried to remove it but it wouldn’t shift - couldn’t locate the 3 spring clips...?

The light looks a little low when pointed at the garage doors so I might need to lift the beam somehow.

The clips are along the top of the grill. They clip it to the front panel.

Sorry I missed your question mate. No, I just put the wheels on full lock to get access to the bolts in the bumper.
