NEW 2016 Rear Lights 2016 DRL Conversion

Post by kully12 » Wed Feb 14, 2018 1:14 pm

Hi all,

First time posting to ask for help.

I have a WHITE VW 2011 Caddy (facelift) with twin barn doors.

Was wondering if anyone knew exactly what is involved in changing the rear lights from my standard caddy rear lights to the New 2016 DLR Rear lights. I have been told that the wring would have to be changed on the plugs but am not completely sure how and what needs doing.

I am competent in carrying this out and have found videos online on how to remove the pins from the connector plug ...

Can anyone shed some light on this, please?

Thank you in advance

Kully

Guide link below: When buying the lights check they are for the barn doors not tailgate version. tailgate version has a little cut out in the corner. Barn door ones are rounded. You'll need a pin release tool or to make one out of 2 sewing needles and piece of wood: You then swap the wires about: https://caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=32664

Hey Dopey - Thank you for your reply!! really didn't know if Id get one lol

The link you sent: https://caddy2k.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=32664

The forum doesn't allow me to access it and says: You are not authorized to read this forum. - Have found this most annoying even though I am a member - Any other way you can describe this to me or is there a way around this?

I was also going to use a pin but Is there some tool I can get (in-expensive) to release these pins?

The ebay link you pasted - That's the exact listing I was looking at!

In your opinion - What do you think would look better? Smoked or non Smoked??

I have a white caddy 2011 1.6 (facelift) - Its got bumpers, wing mirrors handle everything as you would expect to be colour coded - from the previous owner..

I was thinking smoked would look good - but couldn't make my mind up because in some pictures they look very dark - But then had the thought that clear would look better on a white van as in, make it look "Fresh" (if that even is a word lol)

Much appreciated on your help so far - thank you :D

Ok, I've always associated the acronym DRL with Daytime running lights as you have on the front of the 2010 and onwards Caddys. Didn't realise there was another for acronym for the new rear lights, that's what got me confused.

Just FYI, those lights on eBay are way over what you can buy them for at your local VW or TPS trade counter.

Hey Doc,

I checked my VW dealer, they charged 70.92 / each for the smoked - £141.84 total

Which is why I thought the £129 price was £10 off.. (guess I may aswell get it from dealership for that difference lol)

Where do you live? - I live in Reading - When Ive ordered service parts, I almost always find it cheaper to get it from other dealerships outside of Reading - Strange how the price varys soo much..

OP is confused, DRL refers to lights that are on (in the front) in the daytime. Rear lights are not part of DRL on any car.
