Uneven tyre wear
Looking for some advice.
My wheels that came with the van are as follows;
Fronts;
18x8j et40
205/40/18
Rears;
18x9j et40
215/40/18
Today I just realised the above were different as they've been sat in my shed over winter. Would also explain the struggles I have opening the side doors. My question is that the fronts have wear to the inner treads, to the point that I need to get them changed before I stick them back on, is the tyre wear likely down to the stretch or something suspension related? Its lowered, nothing daft, just don't know how much.
Should I stick on the same 215/40/18 to the fronts as the rears are in great nick?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Uneven tyre wear
When it was lowered you might not of have the tracking sorted, so I would start with that. The most likely I think.
The back wheels think the widest is 8.5j without rubbing the side door.

Re: Uneven tyre wear
Inner tread wear points to excessive toe out or camber angle

Re: Uneven tyre wear
Tyre wear will be the negative camber on the front wheels due to lowering it.
The rear wheels offset is your problem there. You can get away with upto 10" wide if you've got the correct offset. ET40 and 9" wide isn't ideal hence why you struggle with the side door.

Cheers for the speedy replies guys. I'll look into the tracking 1st off. Should I stick to the same tyre size that is on the fronts?

Yeah I have 225 on on a 8.5. Like barbel330 said it depends if you like the stretch look.

No no higher the number the wider the tyre so less stretch.

Re: Uneven tyre wear
The 225 bit means 225mm wide.
205 (being narrower than 225) will mean it's more stretched onto the rim. If you want less stretch go for wider tyres.
Nothing good ever comes from having stretched tyres More stress on the tyre wall, more stress on the rim because the tyre sidewall has lost some of its give.

I wish I was a 32"!!
Cool, thanks guys. I'll look into the tracking and go for 215/40/18s to match the rears.

Re: Uneven tyre wear
It'll be the toe caused by lowering that has worn your tyres.
Lots of people have concerns about camber but I've seen several cars with extreme camber and correctly set toe get by with minimal wear on the inside of the tyre.
Think of excessive toe out as the front wheels trying to head off in different directions, that can't but cause wear problems.
The biggest problem for many is when you rock up to your alignment place and ask for the toe to be checked, you'll be told it is "in the green" according to their machines. If you are prepared to sacrifice the self centering of your steering for some extra tyre life, insist the alignment place set the front toe to 0.0° (straight ahead).
