Caddy 1.6 DPF and egr delete/blank

Post by CieranL555 »

Hi everyone,
I’ve had my caddy just over 12 months now and want to remove the dpf or cut out the honeycomb and blank the egr. Now I can do the work myself in terms of the dpf and removing or blanking the egr. The only issue I have is that I’m not sure whether to do anything with the egr itself or leave it alone and only do the dpf and remap.

So my questions are
Do I just blank it?
Will it bring up any warnings that I will need to get removed?
Is it worth doing?
If I do the dpf and remap will I gain anything from blanking the egr?
Has anyone else done it?

Thanks
Cieran

Can’t answer your question but thought I would say I’m looking to keep the dpf and remove the egr when I do the remap next week I believe it can be programmed out so no need to mechanically remove it. Not 100% sure yet doing a little more research. It is a hot heated topic on here.

Loving the van. love the wheels.

Hi Mate,

Was you aware of the new MOT criteria’s coming out in April/May this year. I was only talking to my MOT tester today regarding this (He’s my mate) and they are to start looking for seems welded or broken/cut on the dpf and have to fail anything that looks to have been tampered with. He also advised that on roadside checks/census they will be looking for this and will impound your vehicle should it not pass the pollution check. Again the same with coil overs and shackle kits. Have a look on the ministry of Transport website mate. He says the new rulings are all there. Just a heads up. Image

Hi mate, yes aware of the new legislation on dpf but have got it sorted in regards to mot, as for coil overs and shackle kits, there isn’t anything regarding that if they have been fitted correctly with correct bump stops etc
Thank you for you concerns though

Delete nothing just go for custom remapping which solved trouble with those Parts. These are not for nothing on the engine. With the factory standard 1.6 TDI they are a common problem, however custom remapping works the best for those Parts to work properly. Never had problems after remapping. VW doesn’t like it, it doesn’t need any repairs ;)

You should sell your van as a protest and get a push bike.
