injector failure

Post by the swan fiend »

I was under the impression that from 2013 on, the injectors VW were fitting were of a better quality.
If Daveys injector has gone on a 14 plate at 47k that suggests there is still an issue. Does this mean that anyone who has had newer ‘S’ injectors is likely to have more issues?
At 4-500 quid a go, I hope not!

My brother’s is a 14 plate, but still has the ‘B’ injectors... so don’t think it’s as clear cut as everything post 2013 is ok

It could be possible that it was built prior to 2013, held in stock for over 12 months & regisitered in 2014

It is also possible that it is a faulty injector, maybe a very small percentage of the thousands made, even though it might be the revised version.
It's also possible it has had a hard life, bad fuel, poor servicing, maybe been swapped out by a unscrupulous mechanic who wanted a revised injector for himself. Who knows.

Mine is a 64 plate, first registered in Sept 2014.

Have just had an injector replaced at the local stealership.
£879 quoted and finally paid £559 with a 36% goodwill payment by the dealer, as VW refused to pay anything.
The reason VW wouldn't pay, is because I had refused the emissions fix, when I registered the vehicle in my name.

Unfortunately I don't know how to check which injectors are in my engine.
Could you point me in the direction of how to identify them?

Brock, the part number is on top of the injector. If it ends with a B, it is the old type that are prone to failure. If it ends with an S, it is the newer, more reliable type.

Thanks for the info swan fiend, I'll check the other 3 injectors some time.

I had the VW emissions fix done when the dealer fitted the new injector.
It seemed the only way I might avoid three more expensive injector fittings, due to the 2year/100000 mile warranty they say I now have.

My van seems to be running much more smoothly now and I haven't noticed an increase in fuel usage.

Fingers crossed for the next month or two!

No problem mate, happy to help if I can

Hopefully you’ll have no more issues. then you can spend your hard earned on mods, not fixes!!
I must admit, the injector issues haven’t filled me with confidence doing long journeys. I’m debating weather to buy a spare injector, I’m going to look into weather the AA could fit and code one roadside.

I ended up being recovered by the RAC last week and the bloke was telling me that the AA have allocated service vans that carry injectors and fit/code injectors at the roadside. At a cost obv.
