Mk4 rear bumper on a mk3.
Hi all.
I want to replace my rear bumper with the OEM mk4 bumper. Does anyone know if I need new crash bar or will it be a straight swap? It's a Maxi. I've tried getting VW to order one but their refusing to order anything not linked to my chassis number and claim it won't fit.
Anyone managed it?

I got an email notification about your pm on tapatalk but for some reason I can't find it on the app!
Simple answer, I don't know! It would seem that the crash bar is the same and its just the mounting brackets that are slightly updated but you'll need someone to say 100% because I don't know who has done it and my version of etka has stopped working so I can't even look it up.

Re: Mk4 rear bumper on a mk3.
Ok thanks to Doc it would seem this isn't such a simple job to maintain the OEM look so looks like I'll be sticking with my old bumper. Would need new cross member, support brackets and new sensors/module etc. Pricey for the sake of reflectors! I have emailed Reflex to see what they'd charge if they're still doing the mod.

Mk4 rear bumper on a mk3.
The rear bumper fits directly exact same mounting points. Have had the Caddy 2010-2015 before the new model. Only the bumper itself is different.

Apparently the parking sensors won't fit the new bumper easily and the cross member is different. I prefer everything to be OEM so it'll be a job for another day for me I think. You got any pics of your old van?

Don't take my word for it, I'm just going on what I've read. If RKDesigns has done it then his advice is better than mine.

Chassis is exact the same, why should Vw change the not visible Parts? The more they sell the cheaper these Parts get trough the years.
The mountingpoints are exact the same, only design of the bumper itself is different.
But the pdc bracket from a mk4 bumper can be replaced for the older onces if they are different to fit the pdc from the older Caddy. The pdc holes are the same.

Re: Mk4 rear bumper on a mk3.
Thanks for the reply, I did wonder if they were the same. VW were not willing to order it and fit it in case it didn't fit so if anything I'll end up doing it myself but for now I'm going to stick with my old bumper.
What us PDC? I assume it's a control unit for the sensors?

If you want a Caddy 4 rear bumper just walk to a Caddy 4 and take the vin number and tell the Parts Guy you need to replace the bumper and tell him the vin number. He Will look it up order one and sell it to you even if the Caddy is for sale at the same dealer

Ah I see you mean the brackets that hold the sensors to the bumper.
So no need to change the metal cross member then? Let me know a price for a Maxi bumper, especially if it's Deep Black Pearl then I won't need to paint it....!

Its only there if you stand on the bumper that it holds your weight for example and when someone hits the back that it takes a bit if the impact away and with slower accidents to protect the chassis as Well.
