Handbrake

Post by Celticrsmith »

Hi. So my handbrake has become a little 'tight' this last fortnight and I've heard some unsavoury 'metal on metal' grinding noises whilst driving. My brakes all round are due for replacing however, the grinding noise happens even when I don't press the pedal. My initial suspicions were that possibly the pistons in the caliper had gone, however, today I have the parking brake light flashing and shouting at me. According to the handbook, it thinks it's still on but the van seems to roll forward and backwards freely enough. So, how easy is a handbrake to change??

TIA

There are no special "handbrake" it's the same brakes, I just changed my rear pads and discs, not hard at all, you need one special tool to retract the brake piston see about 5 minutes into this film, don't forget to clean everything carefully specially the disc if they are oily.
