I did the rear brakes on my TT a few months ago (2010 <40k miles) both rear claipers were siezed, i did eventually manage to free them up but was a nightmare job.
Spoke to a mechanic an apparantly this is very common on VAG rear calipers.

Never really had a problem on anything from Mk4 Golf>. If they're showing signs of resisting, I open the bleed nipple or take the flexi off to release any pressure in the caliper.
Sorry chaps, much as our 2k looks nice, I prefer my Mk2. ;)

Hey guys - so when I try and wind the piston back in, it seems that just the piston (not the threaded insert) is turning and I get nowhere!

Any ideas as to why this happening?

This is on the rear right? If so, is your handbrake lever right the way back onto the stop?
