Best VAGCOM / VCDS
Hello all, new to the site although I’ve had several VW in the past I’ve just bought my first Caddy.
I’m interested to hear your advice and recommendation. First is VCDS the same as VAGCOM?
Secondly if I were to buy VCDS / VAGCOM Which is the best to go for?
Thanks
CaddycamperR

Re: Best VAGCOM / VCDS
VAGcom is the old name for VCDS.
The manufacturer, Ross-Tech has a list of distributors on there website.
You should buy from one of the official distributors for your country so you will have the correct language and support for your device.

Thanks Doc - would you advise against eBay purchases? Got one here that on the face of it seems a good deal?

If you want to support the black market non-genuine manufacturers and not have the possibility of future updates then by all means buy from eBay. That particular one is genuine Werkstatt, whoever they are, I've never heard of them before.
I prefer to support and have the support of Ross-Tech and their forum as I use my VCDS on other people's cars/vans. Sure it's a premium but the day you need help it's worth the cost ten times over.

I bought mine from Gendan
https://m.gendan.co.uk/category_145.html
Be careful buying second hand if you want support from Ross Tech it costs £169 to transfer the registration

Thanks for the advice lads. There are so many setups and price ranges but after reading the eBay ones and then the official I’m seeing the difference as you mention with the updates and support.
The 3 / 10 vin options for DIY/Enthusiasts seems like the way to go unless like doc says you want to use it on many other vehicles

Both versions include pay (or watch adverts) per use "apps" for common changes, Pro version has similar capabilities to VCDS.

@CaddycamperR did you end buying a VCDS. Good to hear your views on which one you bought and how easy it is to use.
Thanks

I bought a genuine 2nd one with case, manuals etc.. plenty of support online so getting the registration transferred isn’t essential.. wish I bought one years ago
