Re: cutting down gear stick help?
I am looking to fit the same gear stick but not bought one yet... did a bit of searching and found someone who recommended checking out a guide for fitting a mk7 gti stick to a MK5 golf, hopefully the same process will work for fitting it to the caddy.
First google hit brought up this guide on a mk5 golf forum http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index ... c=100626.0
A few have fitted the MK7 GTI gear stick on here so that might be worth a look as well

cutting down gear stick help?
I just done mine. It's not critical to cut off an exact amount so don't worry too much, I'd say I cut off about 1.5 inches and it's about right. Could have gone a bit more but it's fine.

Is the mk7 gearknob & gaiter a direct fit on the caddy?
Mine has some loose replica knob on it at the minute that’s pretty gash

Re: cutting down gear stick help?
Not got round to fitting mine yet but I assume it will involve cutting down the gear stick like for the Gti knob & gaiter.. I was going to follow/adapt the method used in the link I posted

Thread resurrection
Does the MK7 Gearknob and Gator fit the MK4 Caddy?
Is it taller, that’s what I want!?

Knob does fit, but needs the gear stick to be cut down. Gaiter is asymmetric on mk7, might fit but not sure if it's going to look right.

I actually want it taller!
If the Geartstick isn’t cut does it look odd?

Re: cutting down gear stick help?
If you dont cut down the gear stick the gaiter wont fit. Its a bit shorter than the caddy one, that's why you need to cut down the gear stick.

Re: cutting down gear stick help?
Suppose a custom Gator that’s taller could fix that?

Also, you'll be hitting the bottom of the dash with your knuckles when you shift into 1, 3, 5

I was looking at Shortshift kits to shorten the throw in a hope to avoid that!

Re: cutting down gear stick help?
I cheated when I fitted mine as I didnt want to do any cutting, so I drilled in to the gear knob itself so the shaft went in deeper

Re: cutting down gear stick help?
Thought about doing it this way too but does your gear knob twist around as guessing you have drilled out the flat side inside the gear knob ?
