Motexian Bulkhead - retrofit window?

Post by Beaker2135 »

So you can’t buy dark grey bulkheads any more they are all black to suit new Caddy’s
I can get hold of a brand new one (old stock) in dark grey but it has no window. I reckon it must be easy enough to cut out a hole and get a piece of toughened glass or Perspex and fit it in with a windscreen rubber or bond it with glazing tape. But I’ve never even seen one so if anyone has one and can offer an opinion, before I start chopping up a £300 bulkhead, that would be great
Thanks

Thanks for the offer but I doubt I’m local, I’m in the North Pennies in the middle of nowhere
Was it you that got the last one off eBay? It’s just that you have a MK4 and you be better with a black one and selling yours to me

Motexian Bulkhead - retrofit window?

Post by Caddyluv »

No bought mine straight from factory. About 18 months ago. I am happy with mine thanks. It isn’t really black it’s charcoal really. I think it’s ok. I carpeted the back of mine. Image

Looks nice that, much better than standard I think. Not going down the carpet route in mine, I’m a joiner and the sawdust gets everywhere and it’s a nightmare to get out of the pile

UPDATE
Apparently the windows are bonded in so I just have to cut out the opening and stick the glass in. I’ll update this again once I’ve got it done

Please do!
Love the bulkhead for noise insulation and security but would like to be able to peer in the back!

OK here’s what’s happen with this
The Bulkhead arrived with the glass and it looked fairly straight forward to cut out the opening and bond the glass in
Unfortunately I’ll never know, it was the wrong colour for my 2014 van, it was pre-facelift light grey :( So I took the easy option and changed it for a new black one with a window already in

Hope you love it. One of the best things I’ve done. Just cab noise now that’s it. Just looks classy to.

Been a bit of a delay due to this being damaged in transport but I got it fitted today. Here’s what I think now it’s in.
It looks great and rear visibility is massively better
The colour is off but not really noticeable with the carpet on the cab side and the rubber mat in the back is black so that looks ok. I need to pick up a couple of black trim clips for the ‘ears’
There’s more leg room for the passenger, but more importantly, the seat goes back further so hopefully wifey won’t be in the way of the mirror as much  , can’t say I’ve noticed much difference in drivers side leg room but maybe the backrest reclines a touch more
I’ve not been far yet but haven’t noticed it being much quieter, having said that I’ve just recently sound deadened and insulted the back out and that made a massive difference
It’s not the quality of an OEM part and needed a tweak here and there to get it to fit, but it’s ok now it’s in
A quick plug for Menterous Automotive they have been great helping to sort out the issues. Great customer service https://mentereosautomotive.co.uk

Yeah I agree had to tweak mine a little but it fits nice now. I love mine. Think is worth every penny.
