Coding injectors

Post by sausagefingers »

Just had an injector replaced and mechanic says it doesn't need coding, no codes showing and van drives fine.

I told him I was convinced it needed coding but he's the pro and reckons not, I've known him a long time and has looked after my vans for the past 20+ years with no bother at all

So has anyone had an injector replaced without coding and experienced no problems?

I'm on a site which is a 150 mile round trip so don't want to end up stuck on the M6 like I did last night

Cheers all

If it's a 1.6TDI, you should get it coded, there won't be any errors showing but they knock quite badly when not coded.

Cheers Doc, it does seem to knocking slightly but I'm not sure if it was doing it before.

Will it be ok till I find someone local with VAGCOM?

Righto, been out for a drive and it's shaking like a bag of old spanners.

By a stroke of complete luck I've just found a lad literally just round the corner who specialises in VW/Audi and coded the injector for £20 and it's now running as good as ever. He also explained why it needed coding which made sense even to a numskull like me :D

Nice one.
You wouldn't believe the amount of "experts" who say the replacement will learn from the others but there's no excuse for not taking the five minutes to code it in properly.

The VW guy told me he's used a lot of refurbed injectors and reckons he hasn't had one fail yet so that may be an option in the future, the van already had one replaced before I bought it so just another 2 waiting to fail :o

Cheers again, have a great weekend :D

Should've also added that I rang VW and they told me if I could get the van to Preston ( I couldn't) they would put it on their diagnostic and if they thought the injector failed because of the 'fix' ( which was well within the 2 year bollox warranty) they would repair it but they couldn't look at it until next week and I didn't fancy my chances of them saying it wasn't their fault and having to pay an extortionate amount for them to sort it
Waste of time
Saying that I had a Transit Connect with 60k on the clock that needed all 4 injectors doing so I'm resigned to thinking it's just one of those things
