Alloy wheel fitment

Post by Tosh1984 »

Hi. I'm new to the site. I have a 2007 caddy. I want to upgrade my alloys I've seen 2 that I like but one is 18 inch 8jx18 ET47 PCD 5x112 Tyre size 245 40 R18 and the other is. Pcd 5 x 112 ET31 7JX17. I'm worried about fitment issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 18” should be fine but the tyres are usually 225 not 245.

The 17” may stick out too far and foul the sliding door with an offset of ET31

Someone with more knowledge will come along I, sure but I have 19x8 ET41 with 235/35/19 tyres and my sliding door just clears the rear wheel .

Hi thank you all for the reply. I've checked it on the site and it came back with.
3.3mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 28.7mm more than before. Do you think that is too much movement.

Hi Mate,

You don't say which of your choices that is for or what you were comparing it to, 15" or 16 steels or other alloys.

The way I did it is by researching what everyone was running in the popular sizes and then comparing it to the wheels I wanted.

So most people run 8x18 ET45 or 8.5x19 ET45 as the common sizes (as is other slight ET changes) and say there are no issues with the sliding door so I put in the 8.5x19 ET45 as my current wheel size and then put in the wheels I wanted (8x19 ET41) as the new wheel and compared how much they moved in or out. The reason I did this to avoid trying to work out if 20mm or 30mm etc more poke out from the original steelies was going to be a problem or not. As people say on ET45 the door clears (just) then I knew I couldn't go much more outward movement with the new wheels.

So for me, 8x19 ET41 gives me 10mm clearance on the inner arches and retracts inwards by 2mm on the outer arch when compared to what others run (8.5x19 ET45). So bought them and they fit fine, my door clears just (the carpet rubs on the tyre as it passes).

Also worth bearing in mind, some Caddy's have 10mm wider rear axle (the more powerful 1.6 and the 2.0 TDI models according to the lads on here) so depending on what model you have you need to consider this. Mines is the 2.0 TDI so has the wider axle hence why I think although I have 2mm retraction on my set up compared to others, it is still so close to the door.

Cheers
Matt

Yes mate. the higher the ET number the more the wheels fit inwards. It just gets tricky when the wheel widths are different.
