Whats this orange thing(slipring)

Hi guys...i am looking for a new slip ring for my van. What is the orange bit in this photo? My existing one doesnt have it. ThanksImage

I believe its a device to keep the ribbon centred, ie, the same number of turns lock to lock each side.
You dispose of it once it's fitted.

If you buy a slipring without this, it always good practice to make sure it hasn't been turned too far to one side or you'll snap the ribbon on full lock.....
To find centre, turn the slip ring a few turns left until you feel resistance of the ribbon, now turn fully to the right and count how many revolutions until you feel resistance again. Now turn it back half the amount of revolutions.
Oh, and always have your wheels pointing straight ahead before you remove the wheel.
