Headlight bulb upgrade!

Post by Chrispope26197 » Sat Sep 22, 2018 6:07 pm

I’m looking to see what people are using to upgrade the dipped beam, full beam and side lights on their caddy! I’m sick of the faded orange bulbs and want to buy the best bulb(within reason) for the job. Got a long journey at night near the end of the month so wanna be able to see what’s on the road lol. All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Osram nightbreakers are an improvement over standard. I’m using them as I do a bit of night time motorway driving too.
To be honest, I don’t into all this 150% brighter malarkey, and I wouldn’t say they make a massive difference, but they’re better.
If you want a serious light upgrade, maybe see if they did a HID kit in the Touran, and see if it can be fitted to your van. Someone on here will have better info than me.
Hope you get sorted mate

You’ll probably have to sell a kidney, maybe both for an OEM HID conversion.

Have a look at this: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessori ... group-test

Lots of my mates rave about the Osram nightbreakers, but I was never that impressed and the last pair I bought only lasted a few months. I changed to the GE Megalight Ultra +130 since and I'll be going with them again. They are reasonably priced in Halfords with a trade card, and sometimes they do 2for1

ive got osram cbi h7s in my touran. they are whiter than stock and not badly priced in a eurocarparts store. online they are more expensive though. they do seem a bit brighter but just could be because they are more white. oem xenons would be the best but expensive. then you can get uprated bulbs for them too and new lenses for the projectors to get the most out of them but the lenses require the lights to be took apart.

if you do want to go hids in your stock lights id buy a second set and have a set of projectors mounted in so they aim correctly and then use d2s bulbs with a decent ballast you wont have self leveling but you wont blind people either if set up correctly

I’ve just ordered from Hids4u.co.uk an H4 HID kit, H11 Osram 5k fog light bulbs and LED DRLs. Good service and info over the phone. HIDs come with a 2 year guarantee as well

Tried both the Osram Night Breaker Unlimited lasted some 31 months / 105.000 kms now exchanged for Philips something similar, whiter and brighter light, so just go for either one, the Philip seems a bit more composed in color.

Has anyone upgraded headlight bulbs on pre facelift? Want d to get some leds but they won’t fit.
The standard lamp is held in with a twist lock holder. Not spring clips.

Can I get an adapter to change from the twist lock to allow an led to be installed?

Or is it changing the whole unit for a toucan one?(I’m assuming these have the normal spring clips)

Kinda want better light as always leaving in dark and getting back in dark.

Car-mod-shop.co.uk
Sell some decent LED Canbus free bulbs, as well as interior lights and kits.
They’ve also got a sale on at the moment

I bought the adaptors for the mk5 golf which day they are compatible for the caddy headlights also.
but they do not fit the caddy.

The pin layout is different. Anyone else had any problems installing led headlights in a pre facelift caddy?

Agree, "Night Breaker Laser" are a bit better than standard, I suppose can't complain as they can be purchased fairly cheaply, but they aren't amazing. Only so much that can be done to improve H4 Halogen. OEM HIDs would be the way to go, but ££££££ if done properly.
