Vcds major screw up Help!

Post by E-Bagge » Thu Dec 13, 2018 1:04 am

Allright newbie as I am i totally screwed up
My car with Vcds today.

I made a "full scan" on the car and deleted the error codes. After that my car wouldn't start.

After that I went in to the "central elect." tab and had
A look on the different tabs under "long coding helper" and I could tell that it was pretty messed up in there because there were lots of different boxes checked with options I don't have, and many boxes unchecked with lots of basic things I do have.

Tryed to correct some of the things I know wasn't right and run the new code. Like a strike of magic my car now starts and runs! Hallelujah! But it still messed up.
My left turn signal is always on, the rear foglight won't work, the instrument tells me that my slide door is open and the parking light dosnt work!

What in the earth should I do? Is there some way you could code some "basic" setting back in to the car?
And what did I do wrong with vcds? I was only reading error codes when the car decided to go bananas.

Now I am afraid to even look at the computer with vcds as I feel I don't "trust" the program.

Please help me!

Fake VCDS???

The scan feature on the genuine units make NO changes to the car. After that, it's possible to screw things up by fiddling. I wouldn't trust a fake one though.

IF the autoscan you did saved the codings, it should have a record of the original coding... assuming it worked as intended. If it's not the first autoscan you've done on that car, the previous ones are automagically saved in the scans folder (C:/Ross-tech/VCDS/Scans)

The only way to go back to "factory" is to hook up VAS/ODIS at a dealer or authorised agent. Otherwise, you have to work through the coding manually, using the helper, or from a previous scan.

If this is a fake VCDS, I wouldn't trust it again, but you may still have clicked on things you shouldn't have.

If it's genuine, I think you've clicked on things you shouldn't ;)

He He figured out what was failing.
And yes it's not a genuin copy of vcds.

The program removes the first byte in the central electictic tab and adds 2 zeros in the end.
This results in _every_ byte in the whole central electric
Module has changed values.

So now I am looking for some basic settings so I could
Start from something and then maby make it work a bit more like it should again. It would be lovely to
Have a "guide" of some sort that explains the bytes and bits and what they do.

If any of you guys have a "basic" equipped caddy that you could post the long code for the central electric module that would be some great help.

I have the following modules installed in my car:

01
03
04
08
09
15
16
17
18
19
25
42
44
46
52
69

Once again every pice of advice is greatly appreciated.

/Erik

have a look through the vcds folder in c drive

there are some files in there that list all the changes when vcds makes them

they are time stamped and dated which will help you

Do I feel dubble stupid or what....

After yesterday's big failure I reinstalled vcds today
And guess what files I would have killed for right now?

My God I feel like the worst clumsy thing you can
Imagine. Gahh! If I only knew this yesterday, everything would be fine.

Well problems still there, the hunt for codes and sanity goes on!

By the way, when I look in the long coding helper in vcds I found some bytes without any bit options but still some binary coding. What does this bytes control?

Thanks for the help so far guys, you are amazing πŸ‘πŸ™

Erik

If its a windows Operating System like Win10 you should be able to recover any files deleted when the new VCDS install took place - for up to 30 days.

I would start by checking to see if the missing files are still listed in the recycle bin.

Most past scan files will usually be located in either my documents or a sub folder created by VCDS something like ..

Ross tech/VCDS/logs followed by the usual file name in the typical format of VIN or REG number followed by date and Mileage.txt

So perhaps do a search for *.txt or if that fails try *.tx*

Your earlier files should be there somewhere...

Remember if you cannot find them someone in the CIA probably has a copy :)

You need to stop using that software before you do more damage! To fix, you'll need to get a long coding from someone with as close as possible model to yours, and using a "known to be working" copy of VCDS, copy that back into your module(s). It's probably safe to assume that the coding on other modules has also been messed up, as BCM (AFAIK) doesn't deal with anything that would prevent the van from starting. So, you really want to find a full autoscan from someone with the same (or close to same) model and check the coding on every module. As the VCDS you have is known to cause problems, there's no reason to believe it wouldn't do the same again. Considering that some of the modules deal with safety features, like the brakes, I would be very hesitant to drive the van until this is sorted.
