Re: rear knocking
Is your spare wheel frame still attached?
Could also be a cause of rattling...

Re: rear knocking
Every little bump or rough road surface it seems to rattle like a metal on metal rattle is the only way to describe really

Re: rear knocking
Mine does the same. I think it's a bit play in the front leaf spring bush and the bolt that goes through it. Got my mate to drive and I lay in the back with my ear to a bare floor and it chatters away like mad.

Re: rear knocking
I couldn't advise on that because I haven't changed mine. I did soften up my rear dampers a bit they are Gaz and have a little dial on them. It did help a bit so I just left them

Re: rear knocking
I know its old thread, but didn't see the point in starting a new one...
I have an awful rattle/clunking in the rear and I can't find the issue. Mines all standard. I replaced shocks last year with Bilsteins and ARB bushes. Yesterday I changed out the droplinks, but this god damn rattle is still there. We've checked the jack isn't loose, spare wheel, exhaust, heat shields. Took everything out of the back, and I got in while it was driven and to me sounded like it was under the van.
All that's left to change is leaf spring bushes, but my mechanic says its very rare for these to need changing and mine are fine. I can't even find them on some parts sites that I regularly use. Any links where to find them? Don't want to go down the polybush route if possible, as worried about harshness. When I was in the back, I did think it was slightly forward of rear wheel, so that would line up with front leaf bush I think??? Is there any videos or tutorials on how to change these?
Only other option to me is take up the ply floor in the rear to make sure nothing is loose under it. My misses thinks there is, but I can't see how. Guess we'll find out Saturday

Re: rear knocking
Check your shocks are tight at the top. Is it bouncing when you go over a speed hump? Sounds like the top of one of the shocks has come undone which is also easily missed when looking underneath.

Re: rear knocking
Cheers, I will check these this evening, very easy check so definitely worth doing. The knocking isn't over big bumps like speed bumps, but over rough patches in road, manholes, smaller things like that

Re: rear knocking
My 2010 has started making noises at the rear and been told it is the bearings giving up - at 110000 miles!

Re: rear knocking
Really don't think mine is bearings...
Checked all bolts again last night with full weight on the axle, all perfect and it still clunking like a good thing. Tomorrow I take the floor up
