Especially on shorter trips before stopping the engine I make sure I turn the heater blower off - as that makes quite a racket, and without the heater fan noise you should clearly hear if the main radiator fans are running - in which case I will try to avoid stopping the regen by just driving for a further 10 minutes. Or if I am simply stopping to drop off or collect items from my garage I will just leave the engine running and then carry on to my next destination, by which time you can clearly hear the fans have cut out and the regen is complete.

I am not the only one who wonders why, with all the clever IT running below the surface on these vehicles, VW chose not to provide owners with some sort of visual display on the dash showing when a regen is underway, and ideally a count down of time to completion.

Sadly I guess this is one thing VW are actually quite happy for owners to ignore, as it means their dealers will get lots of business replacing DPF and catalysts.

Hi All members i do appreciate your replies to my questions as it helps us all to understand our vans better so we can avoid making mistakes in diagnostics when things start to go wrong. My van went in local dealers for service and diagnostics to send to VAG customer care i look forward to there response but not expecting to much as the cheating should not have been done in the first place. We the customers are just expected to cough up many thanks Pete :( :D

Hi All i purchased a 2013 caddy maxi life 2.0tdi bluemotion 140bhp in Aug 2016 with 12000 mls on clock and it drives superb I did have a few problems in first few months when car would just cut out whilst driving took back to dealer and no fault could be found I have now done 24000 mls management light came on last week with code P0403 faulty egr so i deleted code and light goes out I then added some cleaner to fuel .After 3 days and light coming back on delete again it seems now to have cleared as cleaner must be working.I thought i had better get some more information on this problem I found out that my van had e189 emmisons fix two weeks before i purchased. Then i read about vw trust building measure none of this was explained to me by dealer. My time for cover has ended but got claim number from vag customer service .Then had to take to dealer to get service so that they could do vag com diagnosis and send to vw .ARE ANY OTHER MEMBERS HAD THESE PROBLEMS WITH E189 UPDATE only wish i had read more before i would not had this done.YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE THANK YOU ALL
Hi All i just thought i would do an update i still have the same issues as above and regeneration on regular basis no response from vw customer services going back to dealer this week as i am sick of knocking code of on daily basis van still pulls and drives well but i am not happy I really like my van but these issues are driving me nuts

Van has now been with dealer for 8 days while we negotiate between dealer and volkswagen it was found to have faulty egr valve passed between dealer and volkswagen eventually a compromise deal i had to accept . Been told van will be ready to collect sat morning just hope and pray its ok. Not much hope for future as i am sure E189 update that caused problem in first place will do its best to ruin this new part :( :( SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO PURCHASE NEW VAN BEWARE OF E189 UPDATE

Hi All collected van this morning new egr valve fitted made my contribution towards cost so that i have 2 years warranty cover for part as i was out of trust building measure of 2 years which i had not been notified about 5 miles up road temp warning lamp comes on i had checked level before leaving dealer between max and min level.when i stopped to check level regeneration was in progress and water level had dropped below min level so much for road test back to dealers topped up water level and checked for leaks none could be seen must have been airlock in system

HI I have no response from questions that i have asked dealer & Volkswagen and not likely to after numerous phone calls to both I have bitten the bullet & had e189 rollback done hopefully this will reduce EGR work load & not so many DPF regenerations it took about 25 mins to reprogram and drove 20 miles home as good as gold. Only time will tell if I have done the right thing but for a cost of £50.00 plus vat its a gamble i am willing to take. If i get any problems I will add to this post to let you all know Thank Peter :D :D :D
