MFSW Upgrade

Post by andyreflexsilver » Wed Jan 02, 2019 8:49 pm

Hi, I’m new to this forum after buying a Caddy Trendline in the last 6 months. I’m slowly doing the little things to upgrade it to a nicer machine, had a remap, fitted 18” OZ racing alloys and just flipped the rear axle and fitted H&R lowering springs today. Next thing on my list is a leather MFSW, I’ve bought the wheel second hand from eBay out of a Passat B7, but I’m struggling to find any information on exactly what else I need to get it working? I know I need an airbag, and the downgraded stalks (I currently have Bluetooth on the right and cruise on the left). Do I need a new clock spring/squib? If so could anybody advise part numbers for the airbag, stalks and clock spring? Many thanks and apologies if this is on a previous thread somewhere, I don’t really know what I’m doing on here yet!

Ok, I’ve done a bit of digging myself, the part number of the steering wheel I’ve bought is
3C8 959 537 D or underneath it has
3C8 959 538 G

It looks like this Image

Am I correct in, first of all thinking this wheel will code into my van ok, and secondly that the parts I need to start with are

Stalks without trip buttons - 5K0 953 513 M
Airbag either 1T0 880 201 AA 81U
Or 3C8 880 201 AA 81U ????

No further forward with the number for the slip ring...

Any help with this would be massively appreciated!

Andy

Thanks very much to you both that’s very helpful, also handy that you had the same steering wheel part number! Does anybody know that I’m right or wrong in thinking that because I have factory cruise, my slip ring will already handle MFSW controls? I’m going to take it apart tomorrow and check the number against yours but would be ideal if it is! If not I’ve found one on eBay for £26 so not the end of the world.

So just to confirm, I need:
Airbag
Slip ring
Stalks
MFWD Harness
Coded in and we’re away?

I’m going to get my local VW specialist to do the coding, any suggestions on anything else worth doing that needs coding whilst I’m there?

Thanks again for the responses

I didn't see what Caddy You have currently. Depending on Model Year, many parts can and are different.

It’s a 2013 Caddy Trendline. MFD computer function and phone controls on right hand stalk and cruise on the left.

I'm not sure on part numbers as I don't know Your car production date. They switched in mid-13.

But general list goes:
Airbag - You need one that matches Your airbag. Passat B7 and Golf 6 had different airbags, although steering looks exact.
Slipring also known as SWCM You need. Depending on production its either 5k0953549xx or 5k0953569xx, they are not interchangeable.
Stalks You need also. With Cruise and without MFA. Also dependent on build date and eccentrically on SWCM
MFSW harness may or may not come with airbag. Depending on which car it came out.

And Yes, Correctly coded.
PS! As You say You have phone control with MFA buttons I assume You have highline cluster.

That’s great thanks for that. It’s on a 62 plate so I assume it’s a early 2013 as When putting my reg into parts sites it’s shown as a 2013? Does that shed any light on part numbers at all?

Just stripped the dash to have a look, my slip ring is part number 5K0 953 549 C. Can anybody tell me if this is compatible with MFSW or do I need the one that ends in B? Thanks

If your van is manual Transmission, the 5K0-953-549E will work also.

It is manual transmission but reading on Ross tech link from above in this thread, it says ignition key lock doesn’t work with “E” What is this and do I have it or need it?

automatic wont allow the key to be removed unless its in park i believe so that “E” version wont have the function available
