Buying 2nd Hand Steering Control Module

Looking to buy a SWCM to install my MFSW, 5K0 953 549 B - only thing I’m thinking is when you buy a new one it has that red clip on to hold it in centre position, but the second hand ones that are a lot more affordable obviously don’t have this, if they have been turned at all in removal or transport etc will this be an issue when fitting it to my van?

Should be fine mate as long as it’s not been completely wound
Which would be very unusual
I’ve had loads of second hand ones and have been fine

That’s great very helpful thank you for that. Never bought one second hand before but will go ahead. Found one on eBay for £24 so will go ahead and order it.

I’ve robbed this off @tommyzoom so it is on here somewhere

If you buy a slip-ring without the red clip, it always good practice to make sure it hasn't been turned too far to one side or you'll snap the ribbon on full lock.....
To find centre, turn the slip-ring a few turns left until you feel resistance of the ribbon, now turn fully to the right and count how many revolutions until you feel resistance again. Now turn it back half the amount of revolutions.
Oh, and always have your wheels pointing straight ahead before you remove the wheel.

Excellent advice mate thanks I will definitely be doing that when it arrives. Might have to find another though this ones a few miles away and the seller won’t post. Who doesn’t post little things like that these days!? Hahah it’s hardly a pallet job is it?

When I had mine changed I had no idea what the clip was for so I through it away once it was removed @doc never said a word but just retrieved it and put it back on the old one

The one I’ve ordered is second hand but has a cable tie around it so I’d like to think somebody had half an idea what they were doing when removing it
