Caddy ex British gas van 1.6 TDI 2011

Post by Gibbo2019 »

Hi chaps new here , IV just bought a caddy well happy with it till I started it from cold this morning when instarted it and left it running with no revs , there is like a squeeking noise coming from side we're timing belt is but after a few minutes it goes away . Is this sign of needed to change timing belt and pump ?

Done 119k

At 119k, if it hasn't been done already, it definitely needs a timing belt. The timing belt is toothed so doesn't tend to squeak as it can't slip. The belt squeak may be the auxillary drive belt which should be replaced when doing the timing belt.

I was under the impression that bg don't replace cambelts in their ownership. If its come directly from them worth doing for peace of mind

I have an Ex BG van 2011
I replaced my timing belt and water pump at 50k just in case BG didn’t change it

You guys in the UK are soooo lucky! I love that colour blue. Tried to find it over here before I concluded it was the gas companies colour! So jealous...

And yes, replacing timing belt after 100.000 is wise, but I think you got that point by now.

My 1.6 with 80,000 miles had timing belt done at 50.000 miles. I was loosing coolant from the water pump. When I left it in for pump, the mechanic would only do the repair if the timing belt was done at the same time, made sense really as the extra cost was minimal. Worth considering.

Did you get the water pump replaced at the same time or just both belts?

@Brynt1726
They are normally quite a good van that get serviced regularly.
I have one it’s 2011 and only done 50k miles and it’s a good van

I have seen quite a few on the market, I always assume as they are Ex company vehicles they are ragged around and not looked after. Your van however is looking sweet its definitely a nice colour of a van.
