Hammock fixing point

Post by Lefty49 »

Afternoon all
I’m looking to add a couple of hooking points on the inside of the van around the roof structure to mount my hammock. So I only need to find one tree to setup.

Anyone done this?

You're brave. I have been tempted, but never tried it. In theory the roof rail should be able to support it. However, the roof rails are rated to 100kg (50kg per rail). Your weight would also be (more or less) evenly distributed between the rail and the tree, so as long as you're under 100kg it should work. I don't think there are any mounting points on the interior that would take the weight.

I do this though, no trees needed:

The bolts for the roof rail/rack are M8 x 14
You could get eye bolts for fastening tarp, awning or hammock to, something like these
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01 ... =UTF8&psc=
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is

Thanks both

Will be adding a roof rack so won’t be able to use the lifting eyes.

And yeah I didn’t fancy trusting the roof rack but the stitches and steel guys seem to tie it anywhere.
Might be just me being too cautious

When I'm using a hammock with my mk2, I open the back door and tie a bit of strap or a few turns of paracord around the top hinge and close the door, then clip the hammock onto that. The roof rack brackets always seem a bit too high somehow.
Sorry chaps, much as our 2k looks nice, I prefer my Mk2. ;)

Afraid not, I was going to use it this weekend, but I'm in the car, so it'll be a tent weekend. Not a hard thing to do though, just keep the door shut when it's up so you're not straining the hinge or fraying the cord.

Don't forget about vector loading......on a wide angle, the load increases massively.

I'm not a maths geek, but am part of a rope rescue team! :D

@stedlocks that it does bud
I would expect in certain directions the load capacity would be significantly more than the 100kg vertical loading mentioned earlier

Yep, I normally tie my basha off to the roof rack and it's amazing how much force you have to put on the strap I use across the ridge on it if you want to pull it tight.
